Save the crusts for a pudding. Party preparations for New Year's eve entertaining begin with a consideration of the menu. Easiest to make and most fun to eat are snack trays. They don't interfere with your fun nor stuff the guests with too much to eat.

Attractive cornucopias are formed from luncheon meats rolled over a core of pickle. Fasten lightly with colored toothpicks. Carrots or celery also make good centers. Up-ended in the middle of this tray is a cucumber. The finished menu includes a macaroni dish, assorted sandwiches, the neat and appetizing meat platter and suitable beverage.

They write of blushing, getting all mixed up when they talk to strangers and even to old acquaintances, or of many other ways in which they feel and act miserable when with people.

They tell of sitting and brooding over their failures to be SOcially comfortable. Thou.are sands of others are like you. Quit pitying yourself SO much and taking yourself so seriously.

When you find yourself dwelling on your social failures, take yourself by the scruff of the neck, as it were, and make yourself go over your own successes and personal resources. Instead of keeping away from people, discipline yourself to go where others are. Take your feelings off your sleeve. Expect some people to be cruel. Be too proud to let them hurt you.

Make yourself listen: attentively to what others, say, enjoying what you with your eyes and ears. Lose yourself in 44 Film Lines Go Simple You'll Dress Like Movie Queen (Because Movie Queen Will Dress Like You) HOLLYWOOD-(P)-The average American woman is going to look a lot more like a movie star during 1944, thanks to the OPA, which is about the only thing the OPA ever has been thanked for. That's on the authority of Edith Head, chief fashion designer at Paramount. For years, Miss Head said today, fashion designers have been seeing who could pile the most ruffles, tucks and what not on feminine movie costumes. But the OPA has been looking fishily at such doings, and during the next 12 months, she declares, the movie queen will dress just as you do.

Miss Head listed these essentials: One all-season suit, with a flock of sweaters and blouses and at least three hats, so you can switch them around and make them look like a lot of outfits. One basic dress, to be worn with the above-listed hats, separately of course. One topcoat. Shoes. Whatever the OPA will let you buy.

HERE'S YOUR HOROSCOPE FOR TODAY ASTRAL indications are not very encouraging or THE propitious for a felicitous or pleasant passing of the old year. There are several signs of reckless, ungoverned, irregular and activities possibly imdangerous, physical, emotional as well as financial and social security. Accident, loss, unpleasant and sensational adventures are probable, unless rigid brakes be put on all forms of celebration and conventional behavior. Sudden events and duplicity may mark domestic or romantic affairs which may be beset by illicit intrigue, strife and other regrets. Those whose birthday it is may have a year of moderate success if they will hew to the line, especially with the encouragement and solid support of elders, employers or others in standing.

But there is much menace from the unusual, irregular and dangerous both in business and private affairs, with many hazards to reputation, social and physical safety. Sudden illness, accidents, estrangements and reversals are shown, with particular stress from unconventional, subtle, and sinister machinations, the emotional life being particularly affected. Betrayal and duplicity threaten peace and happiness. A child born on this day may be subject to many and diverse hazards in its business, social, emotional and physical life, although it can count on the approbation and friendliness of superiors. Mrs.

WARTIME STYLE Since patriotism forbids using quantities of fat simply to indulge in a fondness for fried potatoes, home economists suggest this ensembled, called "country omelet." When brown, add two wellbeaten eggs plus one tablespoon milk for each egg, and stir mixture just as for scrambled eggs. Serves five and "ups" the protein quality of the diet. But if you keep thinking, "What'll I say, What if I say something wrong?" you won't hear what is being said and will, therefore, seem dull, especially so if you say something that does not fit into the conversation. This will make: you more selfconscious, causing others to respond less favorably toward you.

If you blush, what of it? It's your way, your privilege. Perhaps you are the only person conscious of your blushing. Have you ever noticed how you are attracted to the person who seems at first to be very timid but just goes on as if he did not notice his own difficulties?
