PAUL AUDITORIUM 4 K4 are fitted to do than the things someone else is better fitted to do. Miss Davis is attractive in her song number, but it won't damage her reputation as an actress to admit a lot of gals could have done the song much better, Garfield fools around with his sonji, but we have heard a lot of sing-ers do it better. The Andrews Sisters have Do llavilland, Tobias and Lupino backed right off the map for jive'stuff. Morgan, however, a singer of concert caliber who has never sung in pictures, shows up extremely well, and Sakall and Edward Everett Horton are good in comedy roles. Miss Leslie is uncommonly comely and very vivacious.

Cantor, playing and kidding himself in one role, and playing a guy named Joe Simpson in the other, succeeds in being not very funny. Despite its star-spangled cast list, "Thank Your Lucky Stars" may seem just a bit of a waste of talent. It may seem just a bit of too long, too. ORPHEUM (Coming) PICTURE: "Thank Your Lucky Stars' (Warner Brothers). TYPE: Omnibus musical.

PLAYERS: Dennis Morgan, Joan Leslie, Eddie Cantor, Dinah Shore, Edward Everett Horton, S. Z. Sakall, various other Warner Brothers stars. STORY: Morgan is singer seeking a chance, Leslie a songwriter seeking ditto. They take advantage of resemblance of Cantor, in a bus driver's role, to the real Cantor, who is staging a big benefit show.

VERDICT: This isn't the last of this type of film we will see. Other free-for-alls are due for early' release. In the case of screened vaudeville which includes a large number of comics, things generally turn out well. But shoving stars into routines for which they have had no experience has a less happy result. A bit too much time, perhaps, Is devoted to the Cantor siege, of trouble, and some of the gags utilized here had nice gray goatees when Columbus discovered the western world.

Nevertheless, the lumping together of talent is bound to make an impression. Shostakovich's Niece to Debut HOLLYWOOD Valeria Brown-ell, niece of.
