"vffl(GiLr THE CLARION-LEDGER JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI FRIDAY, APRIL 1,1994 Sister, Sister stars (from left) Tamera Mowry, Tim Raid, Jackee Harry Tia Mowry. 14 SiuZJ and Twins separated at birth reunited on 'Sister, Sister Tamera and Tia Mowry form a new family on the ABC comedy making its debut tonight. B.B. King goes home on 'Songs of Families' From Wlra Ssrvlca Report I I By Ed Bark Dallas Morning Newa Mississippi B.B. King will be" featured on Great Per- formances tonight at 10 on Mississippi ETV.

The Songs of Six Families visits places where musical traditions and family traditions flow together, in- eluding King's home-; King town of Indianola. Oscars' ratings win week for ABC The network had six programs in the week's top 10 list of shows. The Associated Prat ABC had the best ratings performance by a network last week as the Academy Awards proved an unbeatable draw. The March 21 Oscar broadcast, which featured much-anticipated honors for director Steven Spielberg and his Holocaust epic Schindler's List, drew 78 million viewers to rank as the No. 1 program.

The Oscars earned a 31.1 average rating, according Nielsen Media Research figures released Tuesday. The ratings were comparable to those of last year's ceremony, which attracted a bigger portion of the U.S. television audience than any Academy Awards show since 1983. For the week ending March 27, ABC was the most-watched network. CBS was second, followed by NBC.

Fox Broadcasting which programs 15 of the 22 prime time hours, was fourth. Also riding the Oscar wave on ABC was Barbara Walters' annual awards night special, which ranked No. 6. Four ABC sitcoms made the top 10: Home Improvement, Roseanne, Grace Under Fire and Coach. CBS' newsmagazine 60 Minutes was the network's highest-ranked show, at No.

3, while Murder, She Wrote was in fifth place. Seinfeld and Frasier were NBC's best-performing programs, placing a respective seventh and 10th. Tamera and Tia are adopted, 14-year-old Detroit twins who knew nothing of each other until their close encounter in a clothing store. Hey, it's more believable than identical cousins. Twenty-eight years removed from the demise of The Patty Duke Show, ABC tries again with Sister, Sister, airing tonight at 7:30 on WAPT-Channel 16.

The stars, both rich in kid appeal, are Tamera and Tia Mowry as Tamera Campbell and Tia Landry. Tamera has a tiny mole on her left cheekbone. "But they make Tia wear one for the show!" says Tamera, laughing. Tia's face is minutely more oval, but that's about it. And like all twins, they are VERY different people.

Their respective single parents are played by seasoned sitcom stars Tim Reid and Jackee Harry, who's back to using her last name again. Unlike the Duke show, the parents are the odd couple here. Tamera and Tia discover they're veritable peas in pods who even suck the lemons before drinking their iced teas. But Ray Campbell (Reid) is refined and buttoned-down while Lisa Landry (Harry) is a bawdy, brassy devotee of daytime talk shows. Sample exchange: Kermit the Frog, fool that he is, sits in for CNN's Larry King today, April Fool's chatting up Ted Koppel and Clinton aide David Gergen.

The show airs at 8 p.m. L- Ancient Mysteries, airing tonight at 9 on cable's Arts and Entertainment, seeks modern signs of Jesus' years in Galilee. Richard Kiley is the narrator All My Children star Susan Lucci, 0-for-14 in the daytime Emmy Awards, has been named host of the 21st annual event though she's not even in the running for the award this year. But even without her name on the list, All My Children landed eight nominations in all, including Lucci co-star Julia Barr, who plays Brooke English. Getting the most nominations was CBS' Guiding Light, with 16.

CBS' The Young and the Restless, was next, with 12. PBS' Sesame Street got 11, and CBS' 4s the World Turns got nine. The two-hour festivities will air live from New York on ABC May 25. Ray: "I've got an idea. Why doesn't Tia come over to our house? We've got a lotta stuff.

Badminton, ping-pong, Scrabble, shuffleboard." Lisa: "Whoo. I'll get the Poli-Grip and we'll eat some com." The resident Urkel, although he's not nearly as nerdy, is eighth-grader Roger (Marques Houston), who now has both Ta-mara and Tia to lust after. Roger is cute as a button, but the girls probably will make enough fans to keep him from stealing the show. After tonight's preview, Sister, Sister goes to the rear of ABC's TGIF comedy lineup, replacing Hangin' With Mr. Cooper at 8:30 p.m.

It should fit right in with its core audience of tweens and early teens. Scott Williams of The Associated Press contributed to this report.
