Thursday, March 9, 1989 The Clarion-Ledger 3D Regular WUN listeners rejoice By Jeff Edwards CIrion-Ldgr TV Editor IT'S TIME TO SHAPE UP. medicine fitness rehabilitation center HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR BOTTOM LINE You know it and you can see it everytime you look in the But if you still need convincing, ask yourself these questions: loss of LIN. They're thrilled with the news from WEQZ. "I'm tickled to death over it," said Gatta, 67, of Clinton. "I think that's wonderful.

I'm tickled pink," Magee, 41, of Madison, said. "I'm excited. I think it's great," Willis, 50, of Jackson, said. "That delights me," Butler, "a senior citizen" from Star, said. Magee admits to liking a variety of music calm at times, "hopping" at times.

She used the old LIN format as background music for housecleaning, and for those "lazy times." "I'm a domestic engineer, of course," said the mother of two. "I turn it on when I'm ready to clean the house, and I get a lot done when I'm listening to it." "I haven't turned on my radio since LIN left," Willis said. "I don't want to listen to rock 'n' roll. I have six kids, and I let them listen to (rock). "I just want easy-listening music.

It's very relaxing, and gives me a chance to catch up on what I'm doing. Not some freaky music or a cowboy crying. I like it soft and easy," Willis said. "We need one station like that, for those who don't want to listen to the other types." Butler, an office manager for Fol-len Wood Preserving in Jackson, said, "I'm in the car a lot. I drive a long way to work, and I really listen, mostly to LIN.

I just enjoyed it, to get away from the cares of the day." Gatta said, "I know so many people who were so disappointed" when LIN left the air last month. Now, "They'll be happy to know about it. That's wonderful news. I'm glad to hear it." The new LIN will have at least four listeners Friday. Gatta, Butler, Willis and Magee all vowed to tune in to the latest easy-listening station.

"I'll have it on," Butler said. gets back the music that enhances her work. Nancy Willis can turn on her radio again. Betty Butler can once again enjoy her drive to and from work. Sal Gatta can't wait to tell his friends the news.

"Beautiful music" is back on Jackson radio! Overnight, FM will change into and bring back the easy-listening music that was abandoned at the former WLIN last month. New owners of converted the station to FM a contemporary hits station known as "HOT 95." The change outraged and disappointed several thousand LIN fans, including the four mentioned above, who wrote letters to the editor of The Clarion-LedgerJackson Daily News to complain about the 1. "I consider it different from 'I hate you' to those who leave their name and number, and let me call them back," Prince said.

"I returned about 50 calls." He says there's been plenty of support for HOT 95 as well. "Jackson is making the switch," Prince said. The complaints haven't surprised Prince. "People are not going from Man-tovani to Madonna overnight and not complain. There's going to be some Shockwaves felt.

The people who listen to LIN enjoy that music." The new FM and sister station WLRM-780 AM occupy studios in La-keover, in north Jackson. buying power of LIN listeners and its advertiser support. The target audience is ages 35-64, with a core audience of ages 45-54. But the new WLIN's signal will not cover as large an area as the old one. Aubrey Prince, general manager of the new HOT 95, said the station's 100,000 watts and tower covers a radius of 80 miles from Jackson.

WEQZ, on the other hand, broadcasts at 3,000 watts with a 300-foot tower. The station covers about a 35-mile radius from Jackson. "I'm disappointed for them," Clark said of LIN fans outside the station's broadcast area. He hopes the FCC will soon loosen some restrictions for stations in EQZ's "Class category and allow a boost in power to 6,000 watts. Neville said EQZ's signal "is no problem at all." "We essentially hit a four or five- county market area.

1 wish we could go to Grenada and the Alabama state line, but we can't do that." Clark said LIN's format initially will be automated, provided by Carson Radio Services, Providence, R.I. The old LIN used the Bonneville Broadcasting System music format and local announcers. "I don't know that it will necessarily be better, but it will have a little different flavor," Clark said. "Still, it's easy-listening, beautiful music." Clark said he doesn't plan any staff changes due to the format switch, but the change may lead to some departures. WEQZ has four full-time employees.
