The mother of Virginia, fearing that her two little sons, who were playing with neighbors' children at a bonfire, would be burned, sent her to bring the children home. A few minutes Inter Virginia's clothes were burning and after her mother and two men burned their hands severely in attempts to tear the garments from the child's body, she was taken to the St. Paul City hospital. She was burned badly on the limbs, neck and body. While Delores was playing with a group of other children near burning grass, a sudden flare up of the blaze eaught her dress and she became A mass of flames when she ran toward home.

A rug was thrown about her and the flames extinguished, but not until she was severely burned about the back, neck and arms. She face, was taken to the St. Paul City hospital where her condition was said to be grave. Garden Work Provides Healthful Recreation Many persons who are again joining the Garden this year say that one the strongest arguments in favor of a city garden movement is that it provides the right kind of recreation for people whose life is spent largely indoors. A short time each day spent in the cultivation of a garden has a tendency to give the mind relaxation and the muscles healthful excreise, it is argued.

Philip McGowan, 98 years old, who came to the village of St.

Anthony from Ireland in 1854, died Saturday afternoon at his home in Plymouth township, eight miles from Minneapolis, where had lived for more than 60 years. Mr. MeGowan had been in ill health for more than a year. Mr. McGowan moved to Plymouth township in 1858, four years after he settled in St.

Anthony, In 1863 he was married to Mary Murphy of St. vears ago. Mr. McGowan- survived Anthony. Mrs.

McGowan died, several by two sons, Timothy and Thomas MeGowan, of Plymouth township, four daughters, Miss Alice McGowan, Mrs. Will Cavanaugh, and Mrs. Anthony all of Plymouth township, and Sister Veronica. of the Little Sisters of the Poor, New York city, 49 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. PAGE NINE Party for 151st to Go Friday Governor. Twin Cities Mayors and Adjutant General Head Group. Colonel Donahue to Communicate With Colonel Leach By Wireless. The Twin Cities welcoming party for the 151st field artillery, led by Governor Burnquist, Adjutant General Rhinow and Mayors Meyers and Hodgsou probably will leave at 6 p. m.

Friday, General Rhinow said last night. This, it is planned, will land the party in New York Sunday, ready to greet the. homecoming Minnesota, artillerymen on their onday. While the list of those going in the welcoming party has not been completed, the is expected to fill two coaches. Colonel Donahue Goes Tomorrow.

William H. Donahue, in charge of the world war veterans' section of the Minneapolis welcome parade, expects to leave for New York tomorrow night, he said yesterday, going in advance of the official welcoming party. He will get in touch with Colonel George E. Leach, commander of the 151st, by radio three days before their arrival in New York, and to be the first to meet Colonel Leach, for a conference on plans for the reception here. Colonel Donahue, as a special representative of the commander, will hurry back to Minneapolis in advance of the troops, to complete arrangements here in accordance with Colonel wishes.

Plans to Be Completed Tonight. Mayor Meyers was in conference last night with his committee chairman, E. S. Woodworth, and a final meeting tonight of the entire committee will be held to complete plans for the parade and celebration. Colonel Donahue emphasized yesterday that while mention of officers WaS largely omitted from the call for veterans to march in the parade, the officers are very much wanted.

The request, he said, should be for officers and enlisted "We'll need a large number of officers to take charge of units in the parado--and there may be some ranking officers here who have returned from service and of whom we know nothing. We urgently want the names of all officers and former sioned men in Minneapolis, to aid in making up plans for the parade." Part of Unit on Santa Rosa. Men of the 151st coming on the transport Huntington total 46 officers and 1,436 enlisted men, and approximately 700 of them, it is understood, ATe men of the original First Minnesota artillery, the others being replacements. Two officers and 40 men of battalion headquarters of the 151st, it was announced, sailed on the Santa Rosa and should reach Boston Friday, three days before the men on the Huntington are expected to reach New York. Northwest Men Cited for Bravery at Front Heroism Displayed by Corporal Kohn of Wabasha and Private Kelly of Burchard, Neb.

Corporal Mat A. Kohn, of Wabasha, has been cited for the Distinguished Service cross by the War department for extraordinary heroism in action, Near Heurne, Belgium, November 4, Corporal Kohn went through heavy shell and machine gun fire for a distance of 100 yards and carried a wounded comrade to safety, Corporal Kohn is with Company 145th infantry. Private John Kelly, Burehard, is cited for extraordinary heroism in action near Bois de Barricourt, France, November 2. With his machine gun section, Private Kelly was sent to an advanced position, subjeeted to sniping and machine gun fire, and mistaken for the enemy by American infantry. Private Kelly volunteered to leave the shell hole, running to the American, lines and convincing the the identity of his section, then returning.

He was with Company 34ist machine gun battalion. Loren Fletcher Funeral Will Be Held Today Funeral services for Loren Fletcher, former Minnesota Representative in Congress, who died at Atlanta, last Tuesday, will held at Lakewood chapel today at 2 p. Fitzhugh Lee brought Mr. Fletcher's body from Atlanta, reaching here Saturday, Mr. Fletcher, who was 86 years old, served 10 years in the Minnesota Legislature and 12 years in Congress. War's Pathos Told by Black Bordered Letter A story of the pathos of war is told by an onelaimed letter at the Andrews hotel, sent there because of a return card with a notation that the soldier to whom it was addressed is dead. The letter itself may have carried sad news for it is in an envelope bordered in black.
