He worked his way through Uie company in just about every job related to hosiery manufacturing and the development of knitting machinery. In 1936 his father the business over to Henry permitting the elder Pope to devote his time largely to The Pope Foundation, a non-profit organization he had founded which is concerned with research in physical Iherapy. Among other achievements, Bear Brand was the first company in the nation to use the revolving eight-feed knitting machine for a volume production capability of a stocking every 9 seconds. Bear Brand's intention is to expand its distribulion through a variety of channels, including supermarket chains, discount stores, and department stores. A five-year plan for seamless hosiery expansion drawn up in 1965 will be realized two years ahead of schedule. Within a three-year period, Bear Brand has become one of the world's largest producers of tube hosiery. Within the near future, the company mil be i approximately 3,000,000 dozen per year of tube hosiery in addition to 1,000,000 dozen of heel and toe specialty items.
