Appearing in superior court, Harmon Ray Abbott was sentenced lo the term prescribed by law for passing bad checks and Troy McGarrity was sentenced on a grand thefl charge. Brothers Ronald and Donald Long were sentenced lo the Youlh Authority, i branch of the slate prison system, for car theft. An accomplice, William Leslie Ealon, won two years probation.

Deputy district a John Quinn represented the people, with public defender fiarold L. Hammond for the defense except in the case of McGarrity. He was represented by court-appointed Norman Cissna of Fortuna. Judge Donald H. Wilkinson presided.

He was born June 8, 1903, in Loleta. He came to Fortuna as a small child. In his earlier years he was employed by the Shell and Standard' Oil companies. In 1931, he began work as custodian at Forluna Union High school and later was promoted to maintenance engineer. Failing health forced his retirement -from the high school in the fall of 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Peterson; dauglv ter, Mrs. Betty Jean Kempe, Forf Bragg; sons, Gary Allen Petersen, Macon Georgia; Richard G. Peterson, Fortuna; brother, Ernest Petersen, Scotia; sisters, Mrs. Anna Winslow, Fortuna; Mrs.
