Johnson announced that the county legal counsel has provided a ballot title and summary for the initiative and signature-gathering will begin at the monthly meeting. "We are going for six thousand sig- nataures in six months to force a special election," said Johnson. Bird walk is set for Saturday George Chanoit will lead a bird walk from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Project. One stop will be at the hew bird-watching station and participants will take a walk along the trails. Binoculars and bird guides will be available to use. The RVOEP is located at 8301 Pinecrest Drive in Redwood Valley.

Museum to present research library The Fort Bragg Guest House Museum will display items from Mendocino County Historical Society's Held-Poage Memorial Library on First Friday, August 3. Floyd Barney, president of the county society, will be the speaker and will discuss the Society's collections and research opportunities available to the public at the Held- Poage Library in Ukiah. Refreshments will be served from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army. Brewer, a voice interceptor team leader, is assigned to the 511th Military Intelligence Company, Fort Irwin, Barstow, Calif. He is the son of Joyce Brewer of Ukiah and Donald Brewer of Yuba City. In 1987, Brewer graduated from Independence High School in San Jose. Bushnell and Johnson John D.

Bushnell and Clifton M. Johnson have joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program; the program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year. They now have the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job speciality. The recruits also qualify for a $1,000 enlistment bonus.

Bushnell is a 2001 graduate of Fort Bragg High School, Fort Bragg, and will report for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. His parents are John and Susan Bushnell of Fort Bragg. Clifton M. Johnson, also a 2001 graduate of Fort Bragg High School, will report for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. His parents are Craig and Pamela Johnson of Fort Bragg.
