THE CLARION-LEDGER THURSDAY a October 4, 1984 7C 'Knots' lands new season of suds TV schedules TV or not TV THURSDAY MORNING Well, it's that time once again, time for us to make our annual pilgrimage to Knots Landing, CBS, tonight at 9. Now sizzling into its sixth season, this Lorimar prime-time sudser just a couple of seasons ago was the poor relation or the not-too-swift stepchild of the nighttime serial family. Spun off from Dallas when that series was a megahit, it provided a home for Ted Shackelford's Gary Ewing, the black-sheep brother of the Dallas Ew-ings. Lorimar packed Gary and wife Val (Joan Van Ark) off to a fictional southern California town all their very own to face assorted trials and tribulations afflicting them and their upper-middle class neighbors. Knots Landing caught fire.

If you haven't been following the series, it ended last season with Michele Lee's character of Karen MacKenzie crumpled on the floor after taking an assassin's bullet intended for Shackelford, who was about to expose the corrupt Wolf ridge Group for Dobson. As tonight's first episode of the new season opens, Lee is in the operating room as surgeons fight to save her life, Donna Mills' conniving Abby Cunningham Ewing is the hostage of Joseph Chapman's villainous St. Claire, Chapman is trying to elude a police dragnet, Devane is ready to use Dobson's files to get indictments against the Wolfridge conglomerate and Constance McCa-shin's Laura Avery is worried about the consequences of Devane's move.
