Vietnam War, a member of DAV 116-Kentucky Chapter and Barker Masonic Lodge 129 and a member and deacon at Medora Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Sedoris; his daughter and son-in-law, Stacy J.

and Charles McCaslin; a brother and sister-in-law, who raised him, Robert L. and Margaret Sedoris; triplet granddaughters, Ally Jo, Brianna Jo and Catie Jo McCaslin; an uncle, Lloyd Sedoris; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Thomas and Gertie, and his brother, Edward. Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at South Jefferson Christian Church.

Burial: Bethany Cemetery. Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. -8 p.m. Thursday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation. Mr. Arthur Hull Hicks, 71, master teacher, musician, artist and planter of trees, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2003. His family and friends celebrate his legacy and take comfort in the fact that he died doing what he loved so-gardening. The quality of his being touched so many.

As a teacher and instructor of middle and high school bands, his musical gifts and humor enabled him to reach hundreds of students. He possessed the rare ability to teach a musical phrase. His band from Oldham County Middle School was honored to perform at the Midwest National Band and Orchestra Clinic. Throughout his life, wherever he would be, former students of all ages would recognize him with affection and appreciation. As a performer, he was the principal tuba player of The Louisville Orchestra from 1956 to 2001.

He took time away to perform with the Israel Philharmonic from 1960-1963. He also performed with the American Wind Ensemble, the Pierre Monteux Festival and the Santa Fe Opera. He is cherished by his immediate family, his wife, Brooke Hicks, his children, Matthew, Robin, David and Andrew, their spouses and his loving friends. Visitation in celebration of his life will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Ln.

A memorial Mass will be heldat 10 a.m. Friday at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 1520 Hepburn with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Misamore 72 Kevin Wayne Gardner, 35 Jessie Benningfield Edwards, 85, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Norton Suburban Hospital. Jessie retired from Reynolds Metals Co. in 1972 after 31 years of service. She was a member of the Shively Order of the Eastern Star. Jessie had been a beloved member of Third Avenue Baptist Church since 1953.

Jessie was born to William McKinley and Mary Lou Benningfield on May 11, 1917, in Magnolia, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ruth Benningfield Talley. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Harry Edwards; her daughter, Harriett Edwards Mackey and her husband, John A. Mackey; and the "sunshine of her life," her grandson, Alexander Harrison Mackey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.

Friday at family-owned Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens-West. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. -9 p.m. Thursday.

Amelia George Fendley, 78, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Norton Suburban Hospital. She was a native of Louisville and a retired saleslady. Mrs. Fendley was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Duane Shaheen George, and siblings, Nellie George Brown and George s. George.

Survivors include her son, Mark G. Fendley, brother, Eli George, and eight nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held Friday at St. George Chapel of St. Michael Orthodox Church, with private entombment.

Dorothy Irene Glanz, 84, of Hill-view, passed away Monday, April 28, 2003, at Norton Suburban Hospital. She was a longtime Bullitt County resident and homemaker. She was a charter member of the Bullitt County Fair.

She was a member of the Bullitt County Fair Board, the Bullitt County Home-makers, Kentucky Cake Club and ICES. She was named Bullitt County homemaker of the year in 1994, and a Kentucky Colonel twice. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Christian H. Glanz Jr. She is survived by her son, Michael H.

Glanz; three daughters, Diana Buhrfeind, Carolyn Shelton and Nancy Glanz; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many dear and loving friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Arch L. Heady Son-Okolona, with burial in Brookland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m.

Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children. Due to increased production and early delivery deadlines, the Obituary Department will close at 5:00 p.m. on April 30th and May 1st, 2nd and 3rd Anthony Joseph "Tony" Avery 67, of Louisville, died Tuesday at Caritas Medical Center.

He was retired from the City of Louisville Safety Department and a lifelong member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Judy Belle Bea-sley; five daughters, Marie Burden (Buddy), Monica Yocom (Denny), Mary Joe Avery, Michele Avery Wilson (Chris) and Misty Avery; seven grandchildren, Tony Z. Avery, Amanda, Tyler and Clayton Burden and Sarah, Deacon and Cody Yocom; a sister, Linda L. Dunn (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Naomi "Alene" (Wilson) Brown, 84, of Louisville, died Tuesday at Caritas Medical Center. She was a retired floral designer with Frank Otte Nursery and a member of Valley Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, John C. Brown, and her daughter, Sue Carol Elder. Survivors include her son, Phillip J.

Brown; son-in-law, Gary L. Elder three grandsons, Gary L. David B. and Brian P. Elder; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at family-owned Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie with burial in Resthaven Memoral Park. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

George a. Cheap, 92, of Louisville, died Monday at Norton Southwest Hospital. He was a native of Jefferson-ville, IN, a retired electrician for where he worked for 37 years, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Violet A. Nilson.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy L. Rose; sons, Michael E. and Ricky L. Cheap; a sister, Dorothy Uhl; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.

Thursday at Keenan's Funeral Home, 4724 Dixie Hwy. (at Rockford with interment in Louisville Memorial Gardens-West. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. -9 p.m. Wednesday.

Joseph Harold Cissell, 66, of Louisville, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Norton Suburban Hospital. He was born October 8, 1936, in Marion County, KY. He was a retired employee of General Electric Appliance Park with 38 years of service and served with the Bardstown (KY) Army Reserve 308 MP Division. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Leo Cissell, and a brother, Joseph Bernard Cissell. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shirley O'Bryan Cissell; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne Isgrigg-Pate and Doug Pate of Louisville; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Lisa Cissell of Louisville; his mother, Mary Zita Miles Cissell of Loretto, KY; three sisters, Geneva Walker of Bardstown and Mary Florence Sapp and Jane Nugent, both of Loretto; six brothers, Tony Cissell of Lebanon, KY, and Donald, Joe, Leon, Bob and Charles Cissell, all of Loretto; and eight grandchildren, Nick, Matthew and Amanda Cissell, and Jaci, Mandi, Randy, Bradan and Graci.

Chestnut St. Harry M. O'Brien, 75, of Louisville, passed away and entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 28, 2003. He was a member of the Abraham Masonic Lodge and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lillie O'Brien; three children, Pamela Blunk, Anita Riley and Steven O'Brien; three grandchildren, James and Phillip Blunk and Kerrie Stubbs; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Kaiflyn Blunk.

Joseph C. Sedoris, 55, of Brooks, passed away Tuesday. A native of Louisville, she was the former Emma K. Baisch, retired from the former Louisville Bell Telephone Co. as an operator and a member of Bethel St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church and a volunteer with the old Methodist Hospital and Central State Hospital Auxiliaries.

Her husband, Robert C. Stierle, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Jean Vatter and her husband, Cliff Vatter, and a granddaughter, Christine L. Hughes. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.

Thursday, May 1 2003, at family-owned Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville with private burial to follow the service. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bethel St. Paul Church Building Fund.

Dorothy "Dolly" Thompson, 89, of Louisville, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003. She was the former Dorothy Osborne and an employee of the old Stewart's Department Store and the old St. Anthony Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colby E. Thompson.

She is survived by three daughters, Margaret A. Thompson, Mary Helen Thompson and Nancy R. Thompson; two sons, Dr. James C. and his wife, Erica Thompson, and Mark J.

and his wife, Virginia Thompson; and three grandchildren, Graham Kelsey E. and Miranda R. Thompson. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington is handling arrangements for cremation and burial in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

A memorial Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington at 10 a.m. Friday. She was a retired custodian at Stuart High School and a member of Valley Station Church. He was a seaman first class in the US Navy during World War II, an electrician and home builder, a manager for VotatorChemetron a retired salesman and owner of Hyland Controls Equipment Company, a member of St. Albert the Great Church, and "above all, a devoted husband, father, motivator, friend and role model for his family, whom he put first before all else." He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Anita Elizabeth (Peters) Hyland, and his brother, William.

He was a sergeant in the US Army tank battalion in World War II, a POW and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. He was a retired employee of Marley Co. and a member of Cole Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Langford; a daughter, Wanda a sister, Ethel Brock; and brothers, Mack, Louie, Robert and Dillard Langford. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m.

Ruth D. McFarland of St. Catherine passed peacefully at home on Monday, April 28, 2003, after battling cancer. Born in Atlanta, GA, on January 23, 1936, she made her home there until she married Edward D. McFarland in 1980, and then made Louisville her home.

She was treasurer of the Limerick Neighborhood Association, a member of the Old Louisville Neighborhood Association, a member and strong supporter of the Shamrock Foundation and founder of Let Them Eat Cake Bakery. She enjoyed travel, good food and laughter with friends and will be dearly missed by all. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Edward D. McFarland of Louisville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa Spinks of Atlanta tion will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at her church.

G.C. Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Johanna Coble, of Urbana, IL, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, at home. Mrs.

Coble was born November 11, 1926, in Louisville, a daughter of William and Johanna Wilmberg Kuhl. She married Joseph Coble who survives, on June 11, 1955, in Louisville. She graduated from Holy Trinity School and Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville and attended the University of Louisville. She was a native of St. Matthews and a member of Holy Trinity Church, Louisville.

Other survivors include four daughters, Johanna Coble of San Francisco, CA, Lucy Coble of Cincinnati, OH, Jane Coble-Royer of Louisville and Sarah Flock of Naples, FL; one son, Joseph Coble III of Louisville; eight grandchildren; three brothers, David Kuhl, William Kuhl and James Misner; and three sisters, Martha Kuhl, Frances Kuhl and Mary Newton, all of Louisville. one sister preceded her in death. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Champaign.

Visitation was held Tuesday at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm Champaign. D. Dorothy Crivits, 84, passed away Monday, April 28, 2003, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Dorothy was a resident of North Minneapolis for 60 years, after growing up in Winona, MN, and Trempealeau, Wl.

She was a longtime employee of the Dayton Hudson Corporation, active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and a deacon in the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lyle J. Crivits; a daughter, Susan Dols of Fresno, CA; sons, John of Saint Paul, MN, and James and his wife, Wanda Jo, of Louisville; and five grandchildren, including T.J. and Jami, both of Louisville. There will be a memorial service at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4343 Nicollet Minneapolis, on Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 2 p.m.

Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation or the Boy Scouts of America. Loretta Brown DeSensi, 61, of Charlotte, NC, lost her battle with leukemia on Monday, April 28, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born March 31, 1942, in Louisville, Loretta retired from BellSouth after 30 years of service. Survivors include her daughter, Dana Bender, her husband, Paul, and their children, Lindsey and Megan, all of Hollywood, FL; a brother, Joe Brown of Kentucky; and her loving companion, Bobby wells.

Her funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Wilson Chapel of Hankins Whittington Funeral Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd. in Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 p.m.

Hall was a member of High-view Baptist Church and a retired employee of General Electric. He was a member and promoter of the National Association of Gospel Music, charter member of the Buechel Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine and the Okolona VFW. He was also a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Mabel Hall; and a sister, Jean Marie Barnes.

He is survived by a son, Buddy Hall; granddaughters, Kayla Renee and Megan Brooke Hall; a brother, Raymond Hall; sisters, Wilma Atchley, Martha Bratton, Linda Wood and Dorothy Larsen; a fiancee, Lucy Hay; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Arch L. Heady Son-Okolona, with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m.

He was a retired tool and die maker for General Electric, where he worked for 30 years, a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church and a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Michael expressed his creative skills in photography, home inventions and graphic designs. He was preceded in death by his father, Clement Henning, and a sister, Mary C. Henning.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Martin Henning; two daughters, Cynthia and Jessica Henning; his mother, Mary "Kate" Henning; and five sisters, Julie Reverman, Jo Anne Noland, Lollie Reiss, Dorothy Henning and Margie Henning. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at his church, 440 Zorn with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd.
