CO'JftlER-POST, Com4n, N. Thursday, July 13, 1972 52 oments at Conven tion Dramatic 1 IF YOU WANT REALLY LOW i il REALLY FULL FLAVOnjESEN IS REALLY FOR YOU. -N i I 4 '-i i rW I 5' 1H Determined Your Health. 10 0.8 the center of another dramatic convention moment when he received a warm welcome upon entering the Miami Beach hall, where he sat with the star of television's "Bonanza" series, Lome Greene. FROM THE reaction to Humphrey's name throughout the evening, there seems little doubt that there is considerable affection for him in the party.

Even to viewers who may bave been put off a bit in the past by his video talkativeness, there is something cheerful and tonic-like' in Humphrey's eternal optimism and constant desire to get back to work. Well, let's see, there were also all those indulgences in flamboyant rhetoric by the vote-announcing delegates from the various states dur-! ing the nomination balloting. Delaware, for instance, was described by its spokesman as the home of corporations, chemicals, chickens and charisma. South Carolina, meanwhile, was described by its spokerman as "the home of the heavyweight champion of the world, Joe Frazier." SOME SMALL television moments stood out. Via the split screen technique, we saw McGovern watching the nominating speeches for him on video.

Then there were the party officials on the dais applauding the delegates for their behavior during the gathering. And, amid all file florid remarks by state spokesmen throughout the nomination balloting there was the simple relief provided by Sen. Abraham Ribicoff of Connecticut, who just got up, gave his vote count end sat down. One business firm has gotten an awful lot of video publicity in connection with the Democratic get-together during the past week starting last weekend with the party's fund-raising ABC-TV telethon and continuing into the convention. That company, as Thursday Television Programs RIBICOFF of Connnecticut gives his vote count.

through on the first ballot. For the iirst three days, this has been a cool convention in tone, with a cool candidate in control. To televiewers, it seems clear that in 1972 the Democrats are going to sink or swim with thier new image. on him, and he couldn't buy that kind of coast-to-coast publicity that made him seem part of the national scene. McGovern's pretty wife was the center of much television coverage, and there was good footage of her smiling as the votes mounted to assure her husband of the noination.

Bedlam, of course, broke loose when Illinois put him over the top. Butl Siike the rest of the convention, even this bedlam seemed somewhat under control a sort of expected display for the shoo-in candidate who swept DAILY WEEKLY MONTHLY Rent A Special Car For A Special Occasion MERLIN LINCOLN MERCURY 365-6800 LUOTTEN Warning: The Surgeon General Has That Cigarette Smoking Is Dangerous to EVENING (2,3,4,6,7,10, 12) News. George S. McGovern as the Democratic presidential candidate was pretty much a foregone con- ft elusion, but there were also other colorful doings. There were, for instance, the replayed shots of McGovern meeting with a group of protestors who felt he had somewhat altered his position about the Southeast Asia situation. The senator tried to reassure them his position had not altered.

There were some cheers, as well as what sounded like negative shouts, from the protesters. McGovern said he agreed to the meeting partly to defuse the situation. Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey, defeated by McGovern In his bid for the nomination, was (9) What's My Line? (11) Movie.
