Reagan invites commission options to aid Social Security 'Paris' to show at Walker The performance of "Paris" by Meredith Monk and her troupe The House, scheduled for Thursday, has been moved from the University of Minnesota to the Walker Art Center. The time also has been changed to 8:30 p.m. Monk is doing the work in collaboration with Ping Chong as part of the Walker's experimental theater series. The program will also include a short concert of Monk's music. I The presidential commission is scheduled to report Its recommendations after the congressional elections in November.

There has been speculation that a lame duck session will be necessary to pass legislation designed to save the financially ailing Social Security system. Congress passed legislation last fall to permit Interfund borrowing among the system's three major trust funds only through 1982. More comprehensive reforms are necessary to keep the retirement fund solvent after that Linda McMahon, associate commissioner for family assistance, told the task force that savings "Our position Is that we support COLA as now constructed," Simmons said. He added, however, that this is an option before the commission and the administration would be willing to consider changes that have bipartisan support Sen. Robert Dole, said Saturday that Congress may freeze Social Security benefits at least temporarily this year without waiting for the commission to finish Its work.

White House deputy press secretary Larry Speakes, asked whether Reagan opposed freezing the cost-of-living increase due 36 million beneficiaries in July, said, "We'd just have to wait and see It comes to us and in what proposaL" Simmons told the House task force that the Social Security Administration would have to know by the last week In April of any changes in the method of computing benefits to put them into effect in July. Associated Press Washington, D.C The Reagan administration is "wide open" to any recommendations by the National Commission on Social Security that have bipartisan support, an administration official said Monday. Paul Simmons, deputy commissioner of Social Security, told the House Budget Committee's task force on entitlement programs, "We'll en-done almost anything that's endorsed by a good-sized majority. We are wide open to any idea that comes out of the commission." He said that would even include infusing general revenues into the, hard-pressed retirement system, something the administration has opposed. Simmons also told the panel that, at present, the administration does not endorse freezing cost-of-living allowance (COLA) Increases.
