Nardi said: "In the passing of General Sarnoff, the State of New Jersey and the Camden area have suffered an irreparable loss. World Figure "While General Sarnoff was a leading world figure whose ac tivities covered many places on the globe, New Jersey in particular owes much of its economic and cultural growth to the firm which he "Most of the RCA plants in the corporate structure of the firm are located in New Jersey and, as far as we can determine, RCA is the largest single employer in the state.

The Camden area has, through the years, been the location of major RCA installations and the growth of the firm has paralled, in most cases, the growth of the communities in which it operated. "On behalf of the 567 mayors and communities represented by the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, we extend our sincere condolences to General Sarnoff's widow and family and we join with the rest of the nation in mourning the passing of a great American leader." Neither an inventor nor an originator of the electronic means which brought the radio- television boom, Sarnoff was a man who saw clearly the potential of these new iinven-tions and gambled on their success even in the darkest of times. TV Pioneer In 1916, he asked the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Co. for money to develop a "radio music box" and the company grudgingly gave him $2,000. After the radio had become a booming success, Sarnoff in 1923 proposed to the Radio Corporation of America, which took over Marconi, a plan to develop television.

Even in the Depression, when president of RCA he was ng to keep the company: out of financial trouble, Sarnoff money io ueveiup me new media. JUNGCLAUS On Dec. 11. 1971, Entitle (nee Diehli. Beloved wife of Fred C.

As a operator for Marconi, Sarnoff had the tedious job the night of April li, oi monitoring broadcasts at an experimental wireless station atop a Wanamaker department store along Broadway. It was there that he heard the first faint SOS that would shock the world: "S.S. Titantic ran into iceberg, sinking fast." For 72 hours, Sarnoff sat by the wireless set relaying to the world the news of the sinking of the "unsinkable" ship and copying down the names of the survivors.

(UPI) Services will be held tomorrow for Maurice James McDonald, who with his brother Richard built a hamburger stand in San Bernardino, into the multi-million dollar McDonald's hamburger chain, with more than 1,500 locations. McDonald, 69, died Saturday night.

McDonald was an electrician at Paramount movie studios before he opened the original hamburger stand in 1943. He and his brother, who survives him, hit on the idea of eliminating menus and carhops by preparing 15-cent hamburg' ers in advance, ready for sale to customers when they walked in. Their stands were charac terized by a tall golden arch, patterned after the one that stood before the San Bernardino original. Some business historians credit the McDonald brothers with starting the boom in takeout food stands, and the subsequent technique of selling franchises to form a nationwide chain without the risk of heavy capital investment. McDonald and his brother sold McDonald's Corp.

in 1961 to Ray Croc, a manufacturer of malt mixers, for $2.7 million. It has since become a $500 million- a-year business.
