r'riy iMp 't 'jr'' Tj 3B Camden's new incubator to give assistance to fledgling businesses CAMDEN A new incubator is coming here and its j.romott-rs bope to hatch dozens of new jobs. The incubator, in this case a building in North Camden, provides technical and staffing assistance to a variety of new businesses to enable them to survive while they establish themselves. The one planned for Camden will be part of the Poet's Row Industrial Park in North Camden, owned and operated by the Black People's Unity Movement (BPUM) Impact Corp. Executive director Harvey Johnson outlined the prospect for members of the city council yesterday after asking their support for a loan application to the State Urban Development Corporation for about a fourth of the projected 1.2 million cost of the facility. Johnson told the council members that 175 new jobs would be created by the incubator building, to be completed next December.

Also, service-oriented offices will be able to share services like photocopying and telephone answering rather than incur the expense of hiring their own staff. Johnson told the council members that the Camden Economic Development a city government-related agency, will finance part of the total cost with loans totalling 1285.000. while BPUM will put up 1300.000 as an equity investment Also. 20-year bonds will be sold privately through the BPUM to finance the rest of the cost Johnson said the new building will be constructed on a portion of the waterfront industrial park that BPUM acquired several yean ago. It was previously the site of the Knoi Gelatin Co.

plant The BPUM incubator will be the second one established here. The original incubator operates in the Wilson Buildup at Broadway and Cooper Streets. The city is planning another one, according to economic development director Barbara Coscarello, who said studies show there is a need in Camden for 50,000 square feet of incubator space.
