MOOSE PARK 1973 Membership Card Only Dream Coming True For Keith Family By PEG KURD Staff Writer When Keith Ceramics holds the grand opening of its new building at Allegheny Terrace, near Grazlerville bridge, tomorrow, it will be the culmination of a family dream and the result of family enterprise.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keith and their sons James and Rob. ert, starting In late May, not only planned the 10,000 square foot building which houses their business and that of the Tyrone Furniture but, with the ex. ception of the concrete and electrical work, they built it with their own hands.

The Keiths started their ceramic business in May of 1969 in a small building adjacent to their on low mileage cars! 1970 Jeep Wagoneer V8, Automatic Transmission, 4x4, Power Steering and Brakes, Factory Air, Brown '2995 1972 Chevrolet Ton Pickup 8 Cylinder, 3 Speed 9500, A-title, Green. 1971 Lincoln Mark III Loaded, Maroon and Black, A-title. 1970 Olds Cutlass Station Wagon V8, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering and Brakes, Factory Air, Yellow. 1969 Ford LTD 4 Door Hardtop V8, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering and Brakes, Factory Air, Green and Black. 1967 Olds Cutlass 2 Door, V8, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Green.

Now, four years later, they are the owners of one of the largest ceramic operations In the state, selling to more than 35 dealers as well as to the public.

In their new building, they will sell kilns as well as the paints, molds and greenware used In the operation. Helen Keith became interested in ceramics In 1951 when her husband, now retired from the Air Force, was stationed at bases where she had the opportunity to provide therapy at military hospitals and to teach classes at military hobby shops. She has been teaching ceramics classes in Tyrone since they first opened their business here and was recently chosen by American Beauty Ceramics, Inc. to be one of six traveling instructors in the United States and Its posessions. American Beauty is amanufactu- rer of ceramic paints and molds, located at Wllloughby, Ohio.

Contained in the new building is the complete ceramic process starting with the manufacture of greenware, formed by pouring ceramic slep (liquid clay) Into molds. The greenware is in every form imaginable; and the public can choose anything from a 50- cent ashtray to a 36" stein (about the size of an umbrella stand) on which to practice its creative talents. The greenware is displayed on shelves in the main salesroom. After making his choice, the purchaser is free to use the 20' by 40' workshop.seminarroom to prepare and paint the ceramic pieces. The room Is equipped with long tables and will seat 42 people.

Mrs. Keith will give beginners lessons every Tuesday night and specialized classes on other evenings of the week. These include lessons in free hand ceramic painting and flower making. After the greenware is painted, it is baked In a 2000-degree kiln, then given another coat and baked again. The number of firings is determined by the specific effect desired.

Finished ceramic pieces are also displayed for sale; but the customer can save about one third of the cost by "doing it him self." "We find that most people prefer it as a hobby," says Keith. "It's so easy and relaxing that it has been very rewarding to teach the process to everyone from children to the elderly. It is also wonderful therapy for anyone who has a nervous problem. At the present time the four members of the Keith family are the only employes of Tyrone's newest enterprise. However, they expect to hire more personnel as the business grows.

Keith Ceramics hours will be Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to4p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 7-10.

During and Dec. they will open on Saturdays from 10:30 to 4 p.m. Tyrone's newest commercial building will also be the new home for AlfloCastorina's Tyrone Furniture Store, formerly located in the Jones Building at Pennsylvania ave. and Tenth st. Castorina, who will also hold open house on Saturday, is a native of Arnold and has been in the furniture business in Tyrone since 1956.
