Society and Club News THE DAILY NEWS, Huntingdon, Mount Union and Soxton, January 22,1980 PAGE 9 Happy Birthday Officers Of Auxiliary Are Chosen Althea Covert will serve as vice president and Linda Morgan has been named assistant secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Orbisonia Rockhill Fire Company. Other officers are: president, Lucille Gilliland; secretary, Louise Daughenbaugh; treasurer, Joyce Krouse, and financial secretary, Carolyn Welsh. Members of the organization held a meeting Jan. 7, in the fire hall. Devotional leader was Tina Krouse, in the absence of the chaplain.

She read Scripture from John 7 and the group prayed the Lord's Prayer. Most of the meeting was devoted to planning the upcoming banquet on Feb. 16. Jan. 31, is the date for all women to meet in the fire hall at 10 a.m.

to make noodles and each member is urged to make three contacts for the donation of cakes for the dinner. Each one has been asked to donate one full green stamp book towards the purchase of a meat slicer for the kitchen. 1980 memberships are now due and can be secured from any member. Welcomed as new members are Vielda Seibert and Margie Hoffman. Linda Morgan received the "pig." The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction.

Smith Marry FUTURE BRIDE Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Eller of Hopewell wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Teresa, to Victor Fluke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fluke of Saxton.

Teresa is a 1978 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School. She is presently attending Shippensburg State College, where she is majoring in elementary education. Mr. Fluke is a 1977 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School. He will graduate in May from Williamson Trade School, where he is studying to be a machinist.

No date has been set for the wedding. Miss Colleen Elaine Stickler of Petersburg R. D. 1 and George Michael Smith of Petersburg were united in marriage fn a ceremony performed in the Crever Memorial United Methodist Church of Petersburg at two thirty o'clock Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12,1980.

The Rev. Faust Hissong officiated at the double ring service. Wedding music was played by Inez Scott, organist, and Joyce Ross, aunt of the bridegroom, was soloist. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Malcolm D. Stickler of Petersburg R. D. 1. The bridegroom is a son of Mr.

and Mrs. Sumner Smith. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride was seen in a gown of white silesta which had a blouson bodice, bishop sleeves and a Queen Anne neckline. Silk Venise lace trimmed the collar, cuffs and waist. The fully pleated skirt ended in a lace bordered chapel train.

She wore a fingertip length mantilla edged with matching lace. The bride carried red roses and white carnations, tinted with garnet, and baby's breath. Matron of honor was Robbie Tussey of Huntingdon, sister of the groom. Bridesmaids were Renee Couch of Huntingdon, sister of the bride, Crystal Stickler of Petersburg, sister of the bride, and Sharon Powell of Petersburg, cousin of the bride. The attendants wore knit gowns with blouson tops and spaghetti straps.

Their pleated gowns were covered by matching jackets and mandarin collars and drawstring sleeves. The matron of honor's gown was wine and the other attendants wore ivory print. Class of 1955, Huntingdon High School, will have a reunion planning meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the home of Donna Rinker. Cold Springs Huntingdon. Help needed by classmates. Thursday, January 24 Kelired Public Employees Sub Chapter 7 will meet at 1:30 p.m.

at the Huntingdon County Courthouse. Mount Union Home Extension Group will meet at 1 p.m. in the community room of the Union National Bank instead of 10a.m. Trough Creek Valley Fire Auxiliary will meet in the home of Cleo Mierley at 7:30 p.m. for a regular session.

Ladies Auxiliary to Alexandria Fire Company will meet in the fire hall at 8 p.m. Broad Top American Legion Post No. 126 will hold Its regular monthly meeting at 8 p.m. in the American Legion Home, Broad Top City. Extension association budget commission meeting will be held from 10 a.m.

till noon in the extension meeting room, Portland Avenue Complex, Huntingdon. Meeting of the Huntingdon Fire Department will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Hook and Ladder Engine House. WANTED The Huntingdon Youth Employment and Training Program looking for 16 21 year-old economically difadvantaged high ichool drop-outs to participate in their week Interim program. It is the purpose of the program to provide these youth with experiences that will enhance their future job prospects and career opportunities that will enable them to secure uruubiidized employment in the public and private sectors of the economy.

The Youth Employment and Training is administered through the Huntingdon County Commissioners. The funding for the program is under the Comprehensive Employment Training Act (C.E.T.A.) through the U.S. Department of labor, which maintains a district office at Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission in Altoono. Ring bearer was a nephew, Eric Tussey of Huntingdon. Following the wedding, a reception was held in the church social room. The bride is a 1977 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School and until her marriage was employed at Centre Community Hospital, State College. The bridegroom was graduated from Juniata Valley High School in 1972; earned an associate degree at the Ogontz Park Campus of Penn State University and a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock State College. He is resource manager at John Flannigan's Lake, Haysi, Va.

The couple is residing at Route 1, Box 214 Haysi, Va. Philathea Class Meets At Peightal's The Philathea Class of the Abbey Reformed Church, Huntingdon, held its Jan. 15, meeting in the home of Mrs. Agnes Peightal, 626 Church St. Devotions were conducted by Mrs.

Blair Garner. A humorous poem entitled, When Growing Old, was read by Mrs. Ethel Nablo. Ann Grove read a poem entitled Labor of Love. Mrs.

Peightal presided at the business meeting. The hostess served tasty refreshments and a pleasant social hour was enjoyed by the following: Mrs. Paul Grove, Mrs. John Grove, Mrs. Blair Garner, Mrs.

The meeting was preceded by a covered dish luncheon, prepared by the women of the church. After Sunday School, the women and young people set the tables for the bounteous meal and the tables for the casseroles and dishes from which the meal was served buffet style. When all was in readiness, Ella Criswell read article and a poem.entitled, Kitchen Celebration. Invocation was given by Pastor Glenn Sadler. All partook of the meal and enjoyed the friendly conversation and fellowship.

At the close of the meal, the president of the consistory, Allen K. Fouse, called on the treasurers of the various organizations for their financial reports. Sylvia Clapper gave the report for the Sunday School. Charles States gave each member a printed, itemized report of the church's financial standing, showing the receipts, expenses and balance for the year 1979. Also, a proposed budget for the year, 1980.

Frances W. Fouse reported for the Women's Guild. Suggestions were given and plans were made for the coming year. Pastor Sadler expressed his appreciation for everything the congregation had done for them during the past year, during Robbie's illness, the ordination and installation services and the Christmas season. He had his ordination gift (Bible dictionaries) from the congregation on display on Sunday.

He expects to visit his parishioners more this coming year. The pastor and the members of the consistory left early to attend the joint consistory meeting at the parsonage. When the tables were cleared, the young people washed the dishes, while the guild members held a meeting to plan the year's programs and places of meetings. Announcement was made concerning the bake sale to be held at the next oyster supper on Feb. 2, in the Marklesurg Fire Hall.

The next meeting of the Women's Guild will be held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gongloff on Tuesday evening, Feb. 5. Later H.

Eugene Garner gave to each member a personal, itemized report of the amount of money he or she paid during the year. Attorney Speaks To Sorority Members of Xi Zeta Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held their first meeting of the new year Jan. 9, at the home of Kathy Miller. Ms. Miller introduced Attorney Newton C.

Taylor, guest speaker for the evening. Taylor presented a program on Making a Will. He stated that a will is a formal, legal document in which a person declares to whom his possessions are to go after his death. He gave details explanations of the Federal Estate Tax, the Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax and the Interstate Law. Attorney Taylor stressed the importance of a will and also updating a will after one has been made.

A question and answer period followed the informative program. The meeting was opened in ritual form by President Donna Shetrom. In the absence of recording secretary, Donna Gutshall, President Shetrom called roll and read minutes of the previous meeting. Included in international communications was a letter concerning a contribution to the International Endowment Fund. A motion was passed to contribute to the fund.

A letter was received notifying the members of the mid eastern convention to be held in Annapolis, Md. June 13 -15. Treasurer, Barb Purdy, gave the financial report. She also announced a ways and means committee meeting to be held to discuss the next project. She will contact members concerning this meeting.

Vice president, Cheryl Ritchey, reported invitations were mailed to the pledges to attend the model meeting Jan. 23, at the home of Sonja Rogers. The social for the month was planned at the home of Ann Leonard on Jan. 16. Service chairman, Scarlett Speck, reported a gift will be sent to Donna Gutshall while she is recuperating at home.

It is the wish of the sorority that Donna is back with the group soon. Donna Shetrom announced favors will be matje for the extended care unit at the hospital. Members were reminded of the valentine dance to be held Feb. 9, at the Elks Home, Huntingdon. Reservations must be made by Feb.

i i 11 David Allen Finishes Unit Training FORT BENNING, Ga. Pvt. David M. Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Paul M. Allen of Main Maple ton Depot, recently completed one station unit training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Ga. OSUT is a 12 week period which combines basic combat training and advanced individual training. The training included weapons qualifications, squad tactics, patrolling, landmine warfare, field communications and combat operations. This qualifies the soldier as a light weapons infantryman and as an indirect fire crewman.

Sergeant Fisher, an aircraft mechanic, was previously assigned at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The sergeant is a 1965 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School.
