Columbus, Nov. J. Frantz was electrocuted at the penitentiary annex at 12:17 a. m. for the murder of Bessie Little of Dayton.

Franitz took the death chair in a composed manner, but with a palid face. When Warden Coffin turned on the current there was a sizzling sound, and puff of smoke, which nearly filled the room, arose from the top of the criminal's head. A second current was turned on, and there was another sizzle and puff of smoke. Then the doctors felt Frantz's pulse, and, although they pronounced 'him unconscious and incapable of feeling, it was believed the first contact had not produced instantaneous death. The strap holding the electrode on the top of his head was then bound tighter by the guards and the current turned on again at three different intervals in quick succession.

The latter contacts were devoid of the sizzling sound and smoke. It was about four minutes from the time of the first contact until the physicians removed the black cap and pronounced Frantz dead. At each contact there were spasmodic convulsions of the body. Frantz was born at Dayton, of well-to-do parents, his father being a Dunkard. He was a gay young man, and he met Bessie a beautiful and voluptuous young lady, whom he ruined under promise of marriage.
