The big question now, of course, is: Just how will the Rebels fare on the girdiron in 1965 when they play one of the toughest schedules in history, including eight Southeastern Conference foes plus a pair of rugged independents. Coach John Vaught, head man of the coaching staff, does not have the answer to a bunch of burning questions including the big one of just what players will be manning what slots when the '65 campaign opens. But, he intends to start seek ing those answers when the Rebels open their spring drills on Saturday with the current-sessions to be climaxed with the annual Red vs.

Blue classic on Saturday, March 20. NEW APPROACH Talking about the upcoming drills. Vaueht says: "We are starting completely from scratch and are taking an entirely different approach to our spring training. In the first week of the drills, and perhaps longer, we will have no alignment by teams but will spend that time doing agility drills to try- and arrive at just who are our best athletes. "We will spend a lot of time on fundamentals to determine who can execute the require ments needs for the various positions." Of course, if someone made a reasonable offer, we would give it consideration.

SETTLING ESTATE "I've been involved in settling Walter's estate so I haven't paid as much attention to the business affairs of the team as I would like. The California champion is ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Association and No. 8 by Ring Magazine. Richardson, with an 18-3 record, is un-i ranked. Bybee said he planned to rec ommend the 25-year-old Rich ardson be suspended for life.

"He has been mixed up in too many disqualifications and is a detriment to boxing," the ref eree declared. Chief inspector Bob Turley of the commission handed Richardson an indefinite suspension. Fans, who paid $4,110, will get their money back. LUGGAGE MEW YORK LUGANO, SWITZERLAND Chocolates pre-training planning Vaught said simply that he and his coaching staff were seeking the best football players to perform during the coming campaign.

POSITIONS OPEN He added: "Right now we do know pretty well, but not def- initely, just who our linemen and backs are as any player we have can be playing any position when the season opens." In answer to a direct question, asked to try and clarify his statement to make certain it was completely understood, Vaught rephrased the statement and made a far-fetched illustration: "Yes," he said, "a person who played center last year JACKSON STATE END IS SIGNED BY BALTIMORE BALTIMORE (AP) The Baltimore Colts announced the signing Thursday of Roy Hilton of Jackson State, the 15th draft choice of the National Football League team. Hilton, a 6-foot-8 225-pounder who played both offensive and defensive end in college, was drafted on the ninth round of the American Football League draft by the Houston Oilers. The Colts plan to use him on back this season we tnougnt he would help us better in new nosition." Such a move, fjjowever, is not likely but is indeed possible. Talking further, he stated: "Remember, we are going to be operating under new rules, platoon football. And, we are agoing to try and arrive at the best athletes in respective positions, keeping in mind offensive and defensive football.

NEW PROCEDURE Rather than begin their spring rills with certain key boys ten tatively assigned first team berths, etc. with the boys in various colored uniforms according to team alignment, Vaught said this procedure would be followed: "The seniors will be wearing the red uniforms, the juniors in blue and the sophomores in green. "Then, the boys will make their positions, and teams, according to their talent (offensively and defensively)." Following about a week of that phase of the training, Vaught said the boys would be aligned to teams and positions and would for approximately two weeks work both offensively and defensively before again dividing them for the final days of the current drills according to offense or de fense. "We are doing this in an attempt to find the best two boys for each position, offensively and defensively boys whom we think can carry the load for us this fall." MANY REASONS Asked is this new approach brought a 0 by last seasons 5-44 mark worst at Rebtown since 1950 and eons off the championship predicted in some circles or the new platoon rules, he stated: "It was just a combination of things. First, of course, is the rules chanee.

And. we are look- ing tor the men who can do the job regardless of seniority-" Vaught, the staff and host of fans will not get the answers for several more months. Richardson of San Jose went beserk shortly after he and state champion Rischer were introduced to the Wednesday night crowd at the Oakland Auditorium. HANDLERS CLAIM The challenger's handlers claim Rischer provoked Richardson by calling him a punk as they climbed into the ring for their 12-round rematch. Rischer won a knockout verdict in the 11th round last year and Richardson has maintained he was kicked when he went down.

As referee Vern Bybee summoned the fighters for instructions, the challenger rushed out and kicked Rischer in the groin and followed with more kicks and a looping overhand punch. Minutes later, Richardson tried to renew the attack outside the ring. Ranking heavyweight Eddie Machen wrapped Rischer franchise and switching it to Atlanta. UNDER STUDY J.
