Volleyball Standings 1, 9MMi "rjj Scots Drop Two Back-to-back losses was the story as the McHenry County College cagers finished the 1971 portion of their basketball schedule. On Dec. 18, the Scots put up a valiant fight but lost to league-leading Harper College 90 to 76. On Dec.

20, the local college squad dropped a hard-fought 83 to 81 decision to Kish-waukee College. In both contests the McHenry County crew led by 2 points at halftime but seemed to run out of gas in the latter stages of the game. Bruce Harbecke continued his assault on the scoring records as he dropped in 31 and 27 points respectively. Jim Mulvenna seemed have regained some of his last season's scoring proficiency as he hit shots from all angles and produced 16 and 29 points in the 2 contests. In both games McHenry County performed without their number 1 forward, Tom Thomas, who injured an ankle in the Morton contest.

Rick Bielski suffered the same fate as he sprained his left ankle in the first half of the Harper contest. The Fighting Scots will nuw take a 2-week rest over the holidays. It is hoped the layoff will enable the wounded to recover enough to help the Scots in the second half of their campaign. The next game will be Jan. 4 when the Highland College cagers will visit the Crystal I-ake high school fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m.

Kishuauker Game FG FT Tot. the Grove. Navy seaman Michael Dorsch reported for duty aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Independence. Bruce Narowetz, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Narowetz, graduated from Naval post graduate school. Kathy Welisek placed third in the Miss Antique Airplane beauty pageant. The Frank Steckelbergs received a surprise telephone call from their son, Frank, who was 15,000 miles away. Shirley Schultz was a member of a WIBC national championship team. The Senior Citizens Club took a trip to Lake Geneva.

Gerald Quinlan and David Knapp were appointed to the planning commission and Boyd Miller was installed as Rotary president. The Lions held its annual steak fry under the chairmanship of Orv Forst. August Louis Miller was installed as president of the Frank Nagel Jr. American Legion post and Mrs. Roland Biangardi as president of the auxiliary during a joint installation of officers.

Estelle Kresmery assumed the office of president of the Senior Citizens Club along with Vice-president John Koehler, Treasurer John Hahne and Secretary Louise Tobiason. School registration was held and 75 children celebrated the close of the summer reading program at the Grove District Library with a party. September Gregory Sorokin, 53, was the victim of a fire on the second floor of the Hong Kong Restaurant. The cause of death was apparently from smoke inhalation. Village trustees passed an ordinance creating the office of village administrator.

October The Recreation Council held its annual Las Vegas night to aid youth activities of the council. Grove Party candidates Richard Panichi, Frank Rotta and Hub Germiat won the three seats. Village President Jim Perkins reported that ACA may phase out its operations in the village; the attorney for ACA disclosed the proposed plans to Perkins and the village attorney at a day long meeting in Woodstock.

May At the annual meeting of the Grove Library board of directors Mrs. Carrie McLennan was elected president and residents cast 153 votes in favor of establishing a library district with 28 votes cast against it. Girl's State Chairman Mrs. Boyd Miller of the Frank H. Nagel Jr.

American legion Post auxiliary announced that Julie Haizman was selected as the unit's delegate. Gordon Gabel was parade marshal for the Memorial Day activities and winners of the Cubmobile 500 derby were: first, Joey Novelli; second, Tom Rotta; and third, Bobby Griswold. June Kevin Haakonsen was named valedictorian and Helga Gabriel salutatorian in the eighth grade class of the 1970-71 school year of District 3 with Ieonard Crane as third in the class and Kim Jackson fourth in class standings. At the last PTO meeting of the school year JoAnn Eisbrener took office as president and out-going president Angela Mueller thanked her officers for all their help and assistance during the past year. Kenneth Bruhn resigned as superintendent of School District 3 to be assistant principal of Cary-Grove high school.

The village board agreed to having a village manager feasibility study made and Cindy Bramble was named as Miss Fox River Grove, succeeding Janet Madori. By order of the court the Grove Public Library District was formed. July The annual picnic of the McHenry County Historical Society was held in the village and highlighted the history of It was a busy year for the residents of Fox River Grove in 1971. Highlights of the news in the village during the past year include the following January Afer serving on the Fox River Grove School District 3 Board of Education Russ Pearson resigned because he was moving from the village. The 66th annual Norge Ski meet was held and Debbie Drabek won a second place medal in her division at the Northwest ski championship tryouts in Minneapolis, Minn.

After an inventory the Grove Public Ijbrary announced it had 8,690 books and 3,029 un-books. February Richard Paniche, Frank Rotla and Incumbent Herb Germiat filed petitions for the village election of trustees. Two highly controversial ordinances were read at a village board meeting that would give the village the right to cut sewer service to polluters. Jasper Sanfilippo was seated on the District 3 board of education to replace Russ Pearson and 29 eighth graders signed up to take a trip to Washington, D.C. Fox River Grove school hand students took part in the Illinois Grade School Music Association solo and ensemble contest.

Mrs. Mona Reynolds and Gregg C. Peters filed nominating petitions for two Grove Library directorships. March Village trustees voted in favor of condemnation proceedings to alleviate the flooding situation on Pine st. and created the office of village collector, to be held by the village clerk, for an annual salary of $1,200.

Winners of the Frank H. Nagel Jr. American legion Auxiliary essay contest were: first, Kevin Haakonsen; second, Barbara Bunnelt; and third, Kim Jackson. Kevin was also named the champion sH'ller at the Orchard street school spelling bee. April Jeanmarie Kolar placed fifth in "what I am going to be when I grow up" contest sponsored by Feld Camp Ma Hoy of Chicago and Weber's Lounge, Rts.

14 and 22, held its grand opening with free beer and sandwiches. Fred Libert, Jasper Sanfilippo and Robert Perry won seats on the District 3 board of education. Perry and Sanfilippo were incumbents and Libert replaced Jack Tupman who lost his bid for re-election. Incumbent Rav Kuntz lost Call for Registrations for Jr. Bowling Clinic Boys and girls ages 8-12 may register now for the Jaycees' annual Junior Bowling Clinic to be held at the Metro Bowl, 77 Brink st.

There will be 10 Saturday sessions beginning Jan 8.
