CRYSTAL LAKE HERALD. October 13, 1976. Page 3 in October 1776 3- sip -see The month-by-month narrative of the year 1776 prepared by the Crystal Lake Bicentennial Commission continues with a review of October and a description of heroines in the American Revolution. The Revolutionary ballad, "The Female Patriots," became well known. Its verses extolled, "All hail, superior sex, exalted fair.

Mirrors of virtue, heaven's peculiar care. Accept the tribute of our warmest praise, the soldier's blessing and the patriot's bays." "Old Mom" Rinker of Philadelphia made daily reports to Washington on Howe's Army. The messages, concealed in yam balls, were rolled over a cliff to rebel dispatch riders. Lydia Darragh of Philadelphia sewed important information in cloth covered buttons. Her son wore the jackets on frequent visits to Washington.

Molly Hays of Pennsylvania accompanied her husband to the Battle of Monmouth. Through the terrible fight, Molly carried pitcher after pitcher of water to thirsty soldiers. "It's Molly with the pitcher. Three cheers for Molly Pitcher," the soldiers cried. When her husband was downed, she rammed and shot his cannon.

Heroine Margaret Corbin manned her fallen husband's cannon at the siege of Fort Washington. Sarah Smith impoverished herself to supply food and clothing to American prisoners of the British, Martha Washington cheered troops Westchester County while Howe at Valley Forge, Elizabeth Grisholm dallies in New York for 10-days. He added that he personally felt the terms of Thomas Ames' will were such that Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington Hills did not qualify for the money. "In paragraph 11 of the will, the estate, after taxes, goes into a trust fund with the Home State Bank for a hospital 'in or near Crystal "My question is that if the trust had meant to include a hospital in Barrington Hills, then the definition would have been expanded," he said. The attorney for the EHA, Robert Deane, said the motion was not filed "to create a fuss." Deane said the motion merely served to notify the courts that Good Shepherd Hospital would be serving Crystal Lake to some extent; and that if the money in the Ames trust was to be divided on that basis, then Good Shepherd should be considered with the other area hospitals.

The Evangelical Hospital Association (EHA), which is going to build Good Shepherd Hospital east of Fox River Grove, filed a motion Friday to intervene in the suit between the Crystal Lake Hospital Association iCLHA) and the Home State Bank. The EHA wishes to become a party in the suit the CLHA initiated to determine the disposition of the Ames Trust controlled by the Home State Bank. The CLHA is seeking the money in the trust which was set up for construction of a hospital in or near Crystal Lake. The question has been raised as to whether or not the Sherman-Crystal Lake Health Center qualifies as a hospital. The EHA's motion to be a party in the action was allowed by Judge William Gleason who gave the attorney for the CLHA, Kenneth Stef fan, 21-days to answer the motion.

"I have to admit that we have had some difficulty getting a few of the technical people we need, but the-growth of McHenry County College has been of assistance in easing that problem."
