Saturday, June 10, 1989 tSrjC (Jazcttc Parents searching for missing daughter rrr A A A Qnnlran tn nt MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) A Pennsylvania couple is continuing to search in Washington and Idaho for their daughter who wandered away dazed from a Montana traffic collision seven weeks ago and may be suffering from amnesia. Thomas and Dolly Meehan have spent the past two weeks looking for 37-year-old Patricia Meehan, who walked away from the head-on collision near Circle, on April 20. The other driver said Meehan emerged from her car, "looked through me," walked into a field, climbed over a fence and disappeared, her mother said. Patricia Meehan has been seen since then, as she apparently hitchhikes aimlessly along Interstate 90.

On Friday, the Meehans, carrying posters and a videotape of their daughter, continued following 1-90 to restaurants and truck stops across the Northern Tier states, stopping at newspapers along the way. Of some 60 possible sightings, they count five as "confirmed" the witnesses watched the videotape and said they were sure the moving, talking woman on the screen was the same woman they had seen and Baby rabbits abandoned in rural area WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP)' Animal protection agencies are trying to learn who abandoned about 250 baby rabbits along a state road in a rural area north of here. Charles Schnable, of Hughesville, discovered the rabbits at about 8 a.m. Wednesday as he was driving state Route 864 into Picture Rocks, a small rural community of WiHiamsport in Lycoming County.

Schnable, 20, returned with his imother, who helped him collect the rabbits. A Hughesville couple is temporarily caring for the animals. Local investigators for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals suspect the rabbits were abandoned by someone returning from an animal auction Tuesday in Lancaster County. The Lancaster County Humane Society is assisting in the investigation and attempting to obtain records from the auction. Abandoning a domestic animal can be punished by a $300 fine and a 90-day jail sentence.

The latest sighting was May 19 in a Bozeman, restaurant, where Patricia Meehan spent several hours consuming a cinnamon roll and coffee, Terry Meehan said. Two waitresses who watched the videotape said they were positive it was Patty Meehan. The family has confirmed at least four other sightings, beginning on May 4 at a restaurant in Luverne, Minn.

A Luverne police officer told the Meehans that Patty sat in the restaurant for five hours until it closed at 11 p.m. She went outside, looked in the window, and then walked to another restaurant, before the policeman asked her for her name, which she refused to give, Mrs. Meehan said. A cashier and a waitress at a Sioux Falls, S.D., truckstop said they saw a woman who looked like Patricia Meehan on May 5. They told the Meehans the woman drank coffee and laughed to herself.

In an unconfirmed report, a female truck driver saw the same woman in the restroom, staring into the mirror. The trucker said she asked the woman her name, and the woman replied, "I don't know." The two argued and left separately, a waitress told the Meehans. A Billings man said he spotted a woman he is sure was Patty Meehan on the frontage road next to 1-90 in Billings on the night of May 11. "She asked the guy which way was Washington," Meehan said. So that's where the Meehans are headed. They stopped at Helena on Wednesday and Missoula on Thursday, and headed Friday for Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

"I just don't know where to go," Meehan said Friday morning in Missoula. "We just have to go some where on 1-90." Patty, 5-feet-3 inches tall, 117 pounds with iight brown hair with a reddish tint and green-grey eyes, looks much younger than her 37 years, her family said. She may have lost weight since disappearing 50 days ago, the Mee- hans said, and has a fair complexion, faint freckles and a "mild" East Coast accent. She walked away from the accident with the clothes she was wearing: jeans, tennis shoes, brown coat and a leather purse. The shoes are white high-top Reeboks with a blue stripe, which is an unusual shoe for a.
