O. Dun Weekly Keview of Trade todar ays: Light wearing apparel ig in better demand In to more seasonable weather, but retail trade, as a whole, shows little alteration, and the crops have not made sufficient progress to encourage normal preparations for future buhinesB in wholesale and jobbing departments. Payments arfla little more prompt owing to the eaae of money. Dullness continues In the iron and steel Industry, theoutlook for the year being Indicated by reduction In the estimate of ore shipments to 20,000,000 tons. Several mills have resumed, including some of the leading rail plants, but these are not started st more than one-hird fuTT capacity.

Although it develops slowly, thore 1s much encouragement regarding the outlook in the pipe trade, easier money reviving plans for the issue of municipal bonds for water, gas and other public works. TEH MS A HE EASIER. Some lucre fine in the attendance of buyers is noted in certain quarters of the primary markets for cotton goods, and Improved financial conditions cause leas question regarding terms of settlement, but the per centage of idle machinery Is larger and the outlook for a broader market Is not bright. Stocks accumulate In some departments, but as a rule Jobbing houses are in a healthy condition as to the size of supplies. The export division continues featureless, and trade in print cloth yarn fabrics is confined almost wholly to spot goods, on which quotations are nominal, each transaction being made an its merits.

In men's wear, woolens, most manufacturers have secured a fair distribution of sample pieces and orders in sufficient number to absorb the season's output. FOOTWEAR TRADE LAGS. Footwear factories are curtailing production snd shipments from Boston continue light. All markets are quiet, but there Is a fair demand for summer specialties notably tan calf shoes. These contracts are plad for immediate delivery, but there is little Inquiry for staple lines, and the higher prices of black goods are exceptionally dull.

Trade at the wcht has aiso fallen off, but It is still relatively better than in New England. Weakness Is noted in all varieties at leather, but especially hemlock sole. Light receipts of cattle and Increased tanning by packers supply greater strength in the domestic hide market, rvwarly all varieties advancing more or less. II HA DSTHKET'S REPORT. Pradstrcet's toiay says: Improved weather conditions and excellent crop reports throughout the greater part of the country, couple4 with the favorable construction put on recent financial develop mentsr have -made for the growth of a better feeling as regards the outlook, but the actual effect on distributive trade nd industry Ib as yet of the slightest.

Rome gain Is reported In a few sections notably the south and central west in retail trade but as the south retail business since Easter Is rather quieter and easier trade as a whole was not up to expectations. Some enlargement in Slllng-in ordors by Jobbers Is noted and a few western points report slightly more buying for fall delivery but hesitancy and conservatism rule operations to an extent not approached in recent years. At the moment the demand for Iron and ateel, copper, coal, coke and kindred lines is at a very low ebb; price cutting Is more apparent and trade sentiment is mixed. In other lines of industry quiet rules. Textiles are very much depressed though, weather and crop reports are harbingers of hope for the future.

The ishoe trade reports more orders, especially at leading western markets, but business is hardly up to expectations and eastern shipments are 2S per cent behind. Sole leather is still the moBt active branch of the material trade. Hides are stronger. There Is a slightly better tone in the lumber trade in the west and in the Pacific northwest oins Joging camps have resumed. FAILURES AXD EXPERTS.
