The St. Paul Press Club yesterday appointed C. S. Bartram and M. J.

Costello a committee to confer with a committee of two from the Minneapolis Press Club relative to a joint social gathering of the two organizations, and, possibly, a joint organization of the clubs to bring them into closer union. The report of tlie committee on an exchange of privileges of the club rooms, members of one club to be admitted to members of the other, was approved. The club expressed its preference for a date between Sept. 1 and 15, 1892, or June 15 and 30, ISM, as the time for the meeting in St. Paul of the International League of Press Clubs.

The dato will be fixed by the Governing Board of the league, which meets in New York, March 24. The-benefit committee reported that the net receipts of tlie re-cent benefit would probably reach St. Paul Hotel Arrivals. At the Clarendon W. H.

An important meeting of railroad conductors will bo held at this city on the 2tnh to take steps to adjust the alleged grievances of certain train men living in this city.

The grievance is that ths west division craws of the '0J" on the order of the Crston ollicials, have been running their trains to Murray, thus cutting off the earnings of the crews on tins division. The question has been taken up by the Order of Railway Conductors and mwt'iig at Aurora, Gitiesburg and otl.tr points have been held. It is thought Uie mutter will be adju-ted immediately. A Pastor Resigns. Ottt'mwa, Iowa, Ma'ch Hi.

Special. Rov. J. W. Geiger, tlie brilliant pastor of ths Congregational Church at Oskoloosa, filled the pulpit of the First Congregational Church.

It leaked out during the day that he had resigned his pastorate at Oskaloosa, the resignation to take effect June 15. A church factional quarrel of healthful proportions seems to be the reason of the pastor's action. He is a high degree Ma'on, and has strong secret societr proclivities which are objected to by one faction. He is also very liberal in his theology. Oota Watch.

The Popular Pastor's Recent Utterances in Review. Mistniuw-Is, Man-h 12. To the Editor of the Tribune. Your report of A.

S. Edwards's address before tiie Labor Assembly Friday evening, contains statements of so startling a nature that, noewithstanding the wonted accuracy, I iuclino to the opinion that the speaker was misunderstood. Mr. Edwards is made to say that Pr. Shutter is an apologist for capitalists, (if my personal knowledge I kuow that the recent addresses delivered by Dr.

Shutter were the result of patient research, and were designed to exhibit the progress of the race, and in no sense to apologize for, much less defend, oppression. When the learned doctor asserted that workingmen have the right to organize, he was treating on the topic: "What his boen accomplished by legislation," and, in this sense, was absolutely correct. Just what a pastor may do in interfering with the business of any member of his church, may tie answered by Mr. Edwards himself in informing us to what degree be permits his pastor to control him ia his acts and utterances. If Dr.

Shutter have rich men, attendants at his church, it does not follow that he continuously lauds them, any more than it follows that the minister who addresses a popular assemblage confines all his strictures to the absent rich, and never offends his auditors by reproving the in for their shortcomings and defects. Mr. Edwards, in the report under consideration, ia made to imply thnt ail work ing-men are treading ths shores of agnosticism, deism and atheism. Such is not the case, as any person who may attend church will readily learn. Mr.

Edwards is made to say that the French revolution will be re-enacted on American soil. Not so. Thought, impalpable thought, not boyonets, daggers or knives, henceforth will rule and dominate tlie world. With the ballot, not by bullets, will all our wrongs be righted. W.
