Haren (13-10) helped the take the opener of a three- game series they afford to lose.

Jason Kendall hit an RBI single in the third off the left-hander, and Mark Kotsay delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh against reliever Scott Sauerbeck.

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5: David Ortiz hit two home runs, including a drive off Pete Walker (6-5) in the 11th inning that gave Boston a victory at Toronto. Manny Ramirez also ho- mered for the Red Sox, who recovered after wasting a 5-0 lead. The teams close the regular season with three games in Boston. If they finish with identical records and the wildcard club comes from another division, the Yankees and Red Sox would shift to New York for the tiebreaker game. New York and Boston last finished the regular season in a tie for first in 1978, when Bucky three-run home run boosted the Yankees to the division title. If a game is needed to break atie between Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central, the Indians would host. If the Angels and Oakland need a tiebreaker in the AL West, Los Angeles would host.

In the event a tiebreaker is needed for the wild card, New York and Oakland would play at Clevelandand Oakland would play at New York. If three teams finish with the same record and a tiebreaker is needed, the teams in the same division play a tiebreaker for first placeand the loser meets the team from the other division in a one-game wildcard tiebreaker. If a tiebreaker game is needed in the National League wildcard race, Philadelphia would host Houston and Florida, the Marlins would host Houston, the Astros would host Wash- ingtonand the Nationals would host the Phillies and Marlins. Yanks would host Red Sox in playoff Associated Press HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS Field hockey Assumption 6 (Karah Nall 2, Karah Zangari, Kari Quill, Lauren Schmeing, Amanda Brian), Holy Cross 1 (Amanda Hamilton). golf At Charlie Vettiner G.C., par-36 Seneca (183) Ben Hagen 38; Fern Creek (196) Ian Feusner 44.
