Executive Director E. M.

"HOW LONG that might take, or what the outcome would te, I have no idea," Erickson said. "But I feel sure that nothing would happen before next Friday" (when Miss Blalock is scheduled to begin defense of the executive committee. No one had counsel. Hers was in New York, ours was in Dallas at the time.

The committee felt it had to go ahead. "RUSSELL SAYS that Jane never admitted any rule violations. Our executive committee says she did. I guess, if this comes to trial, we will just have to wait and see which story is accepted." About efforts aimed at settling matters out of court, Erickson said: "The judge asked us to try to reach some sort of agreement. Our executive committee offered to cut the suspension time approximately in half" (if Miss Blalock would drop, her suit).

"Russell's reply was that to him, a settlement involving any suspension was non-negotiable. I suppose that's what Jane feels." treble damages (suffered by the plaintiff) and also is liable for the other side's attorney fees, at the discretion of the court. "Now suppose we win this case. How much has Jane suffered? How much has she lost in endorsements, Whatever would be decided by judge or jury, remember she would get triple. And then there would be our fees.

Who knows what it would all come to?" Erickson said we have "at-temped to avoid any. appearance of trying this in the press. Our lawyer told LPGA members not to discuss it, and they have not. But I don't feel that I can remain silent after some of the things Russell said Thursday." Amateur Nancy Porter of Riverton, N. caused a flurry of excitement with the first hole-in-one in the U. S. Women's Open Golf Championship since 1969 but Shirley Englehorn retained the tournament load Friday. Miss Porter, 26-year-old history teacher and daughter of former U.S.

At Winged Foot Golf Club, near New York, where the principal parties to the controversy are now playing in the U.

S. Women's Open Championship, talk about the case took a new turn. When she filed her $5 million antitrust suit against the LPGA as a counter to her suspension, Miss Blalock had hinted she was not really interested in the money. What she really wanted, it was indicated, was vindication against allegations of cheating by moving balls so she would not have to putt out of spike marks). But at Winged Foot a re- Gets Ace lead melt away with rain but she birdied the last hole with a 25-foot putt to hold the lead.

She scored 72-75147. MISS ENGLEHORN covered the front nine in two-under 34, then lost a stroke with a bogey five on the 10th, before thundershowers held up play nearly two hours. When she returned she carded three bogeys and a. double bogey and reached the 18th in a tie with Gloria Ehret. Miss Ehret, who finished play with a 74 before the thundershowers, was alone in Miller Barber, Buddy Allin and Australian David Graham at 68.

Hinson, 27, a lanky, blond who overcame a childhood bout with polio that left him with a withered left arm, had seven birdies in his round. He canned three 22-foot putts and a pair of 18-footers for birdies. Most of golf's biggest names Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Pal-' mer and Lee Trevino among them are skipping the tournament. Because of Thursday's rain-out the 72-hole tourney will run through Monday. Tom Weiskopf, shot a hole-in-one on the 196-yard No.

7 hole. It was Weiskopf's fourth competitive ace and the 17th on the tour this year. JANE BLALOCK denied counsel? porter asked John Russell, Jane's counsel, how the $5 million was decided upon. Was this just a nice, big figure used to give zing to his "OH, NO," Russell replied. "Do you know what the law is in antitrust cases? Others at 152 were rookie pro Shelley Hamlin and Dede Owens. Jane Blalock, the center of attention because of her current court controversy with the Ladies PGA for rules infractions, matched her first-round 78 for a 156.
