Cox, tying the NFL record of ex-Eagle Sam Baker by scoring in his 110th straight game, booted field goals of 21, 23 and 10 yards, the third kick giving the Vikings a 16-16 lead with 8:47 to play. Turner fielded the next kick-off at his own 12, swung to the sidelines and sailed to his NFL record-tying fourth kick-off return touchdown of the season.

But a short loss and a holding penalty pushed the Bears back to their 39 and Chicago had to punt with a minute left. The Viking defense rose twice in the second period to stop penetrating Chicago drives. Cornerback Charlie West picked off a Concannon pass in the Minnesota end zone after the Bears got to the Vikings 7.

Wally Hilgenberg intercepted Concannon's pass at the Minnesota 15 after a short punt. Lonnie Warwick got a third interception for the Vikings at the Chicago 30 and returned it six yards to the 24 to set up Cox's fourth-period field goal. Fullback Curt Watson broke through the middle for a 19-yard touchdown run that brought fourth-ranked Tennessee from behind with 2:20 left to play Saturday anf propelled the Vols to a 28-1" victory over UCLA.

UCLA had taken the lead with 3:40 to play when safety Ron Carver streaked 85 yards with an intercepted pass to put the Bruins ahead, 17-14. But quarterback Bobby Scott, who set several school records despite an injured foot, brought the Sugar Bowl-bound Vols roaring 67 yards upfield for the decisive score. Passing on fourth down, Scott hit tailback Don McLeary for a first down on the 19 and Watson bolted over from there. McLeary, who scored the first Tennessee touchdown, wont over again with eight seconds to go, sending the Vols into the Sugar Bowl opposite Air Force with a 10-1 mark. Scott, a senior from Ross-ville, set school records in career offense (3580 yards), career passing (3461), single season yardage (1786) and career passing attempts (252).

Only 7:19 remained in the first half when Tennessee launched a 77-yard drive that broke a scoreless deadlock. The Bruins helped by being called on a pass interference penalty that put the ball on the UCLA one. Three plays later, McLeary dived in for the-touchdown. Eight seconds deep in the second UCLA got its chance when a fumble by Watson gave the Bruins the ball on the Vol 30. Marv Kendricks carried twice, the second time skirting right end for 18 yards to tie it up.

Scott's 13-yard scoring pass to Lester Mc-Clain later in the same quarter broke the tie. 5 (UPI). Almost apologetically, Texas halfback Jim Berieben explained that pre-game almost made him sick in the first quarler of the top-ranked Longhorns' annihilation of rival Arkansas Saturday. But Berleisen didn't need to apologize for his performance as he ruiihed for 189 yards to help Texas to its third straight Southwest Conference title and an almost ceitain second straight national championship with a 42-7 win over the Razor- Bertelsen, fuLback Steve Worster, quarterback Eddie Phillips and coach Darrell Royal agreed unanimously on one thing the Longhorns were better prepared for this game than any in recent years. DIDN'T DREAM "I didn't dream it would be that way," Royal said. "I don't think we've ever had our people that ready to play.

It was just one of those things thaf happens." Royal cited a Texas goal line stand in the second period as the turning point in the game. At that time, Texas led only, 14-7, and Arkansas had a first and goal at the Long-horns' three-yard line. Bu- Texas stopped four straight running pi-ays and then marched 99 yards for a touchdown th2t deflated the Razorbacks. "That goal line stand with the 99-yard drive back to back gave us a big lift. It was the thing that really got us rolling," Royal said.

Bertelsen, having his best day in two years as a Texas carter, said, "I felt a little sick in the first quarter, but I guess it was because I was so excited before the game. I didn't get to sleep until two o'clock last night" LOOSENED UP Worsler, who went into the game wi.h a severe hip bruise, bruised his shoulder on the opening kickolf and "kep; shying away from it. I get some heat cn it at the half and everything finally loosened up," Worster credited the strong blocking of the Texas line fr his success. "My running wasn't anything fantastic. I just followed the blockers," he said.

"My little brolher could run through holes like that." Texas tackle Bill Atessis said his biggest concern was that the Longhorns would reach their emo.ional peak before the game. "They were having to held us back in the dressing he said "I was scared to dealh we were going to hit our peak in the locker room about 1 o'clock." Page play a game as they Coach Darrcil Royal said. "It's been one of the finest days since I've been here." And, lost in the debris o'. the one-sided score was the goal line stand made by Texas' defense in the second quarter which prevented Arkansas from tying the score. "It hurt us," said Arkansas' dejected coach, Frank Broyles. Brtelsen scored three times and Worster twice.

Worster's two touchdowns came on runs of two yards each and Bertel- sm scored on six, eight and I live yara runs, rnmips scorea the first Longhorn touchdown from seven yards out. Happy Feller contributed six extra points to finish up with an NCAA career record ol 123 kicking points. THROW ONLY 3 PASSES Arkansas' lone points came in the second period during a brief rally when Jon Richardson swept 12 yards into the erd zone. Phillips directed Texas on drives of 76, 83, 99, 46 and 63 yards before turning over the club to second stringer Donnie Wigginton. Wigginton immediately guided a 48-yard scoring thrusl.

The Texas ground game was so potent that Phillips went to the air only three times and completed two of those passes. Both of the complaints were instrumental in two of Texas' first-half touchdown drives. Arkansas, showing none of the emotional spirit which marked its efforts in last year's 15-14 loss to Texas, was a victim of its own blunders all afternoon. Bill Montgomery, the Arkansas quarterback who was finishing his college career, threw three interceptions. ARKANSAS BOTTLED UP Except for Arkansas' flurry in the sscond quarter, Texas' domination of the game was astounding.

Playing ball control offense, Texas succeeded on 10 of 14 third down plays. The second half was such a one-stf ed affair that Arkansas wound up gaining only 165 yards all day 145 of them in the air and a paltry 20 on the ground.
