WASHINGTON, May 3 President Truman said yesterday he did not end the eight-week-old packinghouse workers strike by injunctions such as were used against atomic energy and the soft coal miners. Instead, government conciliators will try again to settle the strike, at conferences beginning Saturday in Chicago. Cyrus S.

Ching, head of the federal mediation and conciliation service, said a panel of mediators will arrange meetings with representatives of the striking C.I.O. packinghouse workers and the major packers there. President Truman was asked yesterday if the failure of conciliation meetings had changed his mind on the necessity for seeking an injunction. He replied that no new move was planned yet. Another angle of the strike developed yesterday when Chairman Hartley New Jersey, of the house labor committee ordered an investigation of violence reported in Kansas City, last week, Dodging Bullets to Get Pictures WOOL J.

TRUCE OFFER IS REJECTED i A Move to End the Battle in the Holy Land Ends In Failure.

WASHINGTON, May i A new American attempt to stop the fighting in Palestine has been rebuffed by both Jews and Arabs, it was learned Thurs'day. But President Truman declared every possible effort is still made through the United Nations to get the Holy Land crisis settled. The president discussed the situation briefly at a news conference shortly after other officials disclosed that American representatives at the United Nations in New York gave Jews and Arabs a four point truce proposal on Monday. This proposal specified that: 1. The United Nations assembly's special session on settlement of the Palestine problem be suspended for 10 days.

2. Both Jews and Arabs to a general cease-fire order for the 10-day period. 3. The British agree to extend their rule over Palestine for 10 days beyond May 15, the date on which they now are scheduled to surrender their mandate. 4.

President Truman should provide a special plane to transport to Palestine Jewish and Arab representatives and members of the Belgian-French-United States truce commission to negotiate a truce and report back to the general assembly at the end of the 10-day period. 109th annual convention of the Missouri Disciples of Christ elected these officers at its closing session I yesterday: I Harvey Baker Smith, Marshall, president; Mrs. Clark Buckner, Han- nibal, and Guy Cowden, Springfield, i vice-president; Mrs. J.
