Fundraiser nets more than $1,700 for skate park TRIBUNE REPORTS The Seymour Skate Park Association recently held a fundraiser at WalMart Supercenter in Seymour, raising more than $1,700 to help build a skate park in memory of two local youth who died in a wreck. Family members of Todd Kyle Schurman and representatives from the Jackson County chapter of ABATE collected $1,714.90 in donations from Wal-Mart customers. That amount was added to a recent donation of $10,000 by local pharmaceutical manufacturer Schwarz Pharma to bring organizers within $20,000 of their $60,000 goal. Although tragedy took the lives of teenagers Schurman and Zachary Grubb in April, family members, friends and the community have rallied together to help raise money to build the skate park in their memory at Shields Park. Both boys were avid skateboarders who had raised more than $13,000 on their own for the skate park.

Taking part in the WalMart fundraiser were Gary Greathouse, ABATE co-county rep; Todd Schurman, Seymour Skate Park rep and father of Todd Kyle Schurman; Dave McCoy, ABATE county rep; Kole Law, Wal-Mart assistant manager; Lisa Down, ABATE chair; and Missi Schurman, Seymour Skate Park rep and mother of Todd Kyle Schurman.
