Obituaries Clifford Lewis 3d, history buff By Rusty Pray INUUIRKR STAFF WRITER Clifford Lewis 3d, 95, the last surviving member of the original board of trustees of the Atwater Kent Museum, died Sunday of pneu monia at Chestnut Hill Hospital. He had resided in Flourtown af ter living in Media for many years. Mr. Lewis, well-known in Philadelphia society, also had been a longtime resident of Center City. A 1924 graduate of Episcopal Academy who held a bachelor's degree from the Univer Clifford Lewis 3d sity of Pennsylvania, Mr.

Lewis was a stockbroker by profession, a histo rian and genealogist by inclination. He was associated with the Atwa ter Kent Museum, the city's official history museum, for more than 60 years. He served as secretary from 1938 the year the museum opened until 1986, when he was awarded emeritus status "He was very dedicated to this institution," said Jeffrey Ray, the museum curator of collections. The history of Philadelphia was not the only subject that commanded Mr. Lewis' attention.

He served as state president of the Society of the Cincinnati from 1978 to 1981 and was a member of its historical committee from 1972 until his death. He also was chairman of the Brandywine Battlefield State Park Commission from 1983 to 1987. Mr. Lewis served with several other organizations, including as president of the Numismatic and Antiquarian Society of Philadelphia trom 1981 to 1984. He was governor of the Colonial Society of Pennsylvania in 1973 and 1974 and was a mem ber of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution.

A native of Utica, N.Y., Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Mary a son, Clifford a daughter, Eleanor Reed Lewis; two grandsons; and several stepchildren and stepgrand-children. His first wife, archaeolo gist Mary Butler Lewis, to whom he was married for 28 years, died in 1970. His second wife, Virginia Gibson Bullitt Lewis, died several years ago. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.

next Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 22 E. Chestnut Hill Ave. Burial is private. Memorial donations may be made to the Society of the Cincinnati, 2118 Massachusetts Ave.
