Lybrand's Philadelphia office and treasurer for Frank Rizzo's first mayoral campaign, died Friday at 'Sunrise Care Rehabilitation Center in Elkton, of complications from heart bypass surgery. He had been a Haddonfield resident for about three decades and also had a residence in Chesapeake Cil, Md' He was urn in Brooklawn and was a 1938 graduate of Collings- wood High school. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he was serving in Europe as a bombardier in the 15th Air Corps, 724th Squadron, 451st Bomb Group, when his plane was shot down over Romania. He was a prisoner of war for 13 months and later received the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals. After returning to civilian life, he completed his college education at Lehigh University, where he received a degree in business education in 1947.

Mr. Crans was managing general partner, responsible for all Coopers Lybrand operations and hundreds of employees from New Jersey to Virginia, when he retired in 1983. He spent his entire 36-year career with the firm, beginning as an apprentice auditor. He was made a partner in 1962 and was named managing partner of the Philadelphia office and elected to the Firm Council In 1968. He served on the firm's 12-man executive committee from 1973 until retiring.

Although Coopers Lybrand is one of the "Big Eight" accounting firms, Mr. Crans spent his entire career in Philadelphia, resisting offers to work elsewhere. He served some of the firm's biggest clients, including Sun Oil, General Refractories and Queen City Brewing. Active in many facets of Philadelphia life, Mr. Crans was a past vice president as well as a member of the board of directors of the Associated United Way of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

He was a member of the Sunday Breakfast Club, a group of business, academic, political, journalism and legal leaders in the city, and of the Union League. Mr. Crans was campaign treasurer for Rizzo when the Democrat was elected to his first term as Philadelphia mayor in 1971. After his retirement, he was a member of the board of directors of Northern National Corp. Bank of New Jersey, as well as a director of Lenape State Bank and the DecisionCapital Fund.

Mr. Crans was a member of the Tavistock Country Club. He also was a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Institutes of Certified Public Accounting. He enjoyed woodworking, particu- In the Region Modessa H. Floyd Academy of Music retiree, 93 Modessa H.

Floyd, 93, chief attendant in the ladies' room at the Academy of Music for more than six decades, died of congestive heart failure Saturday at the Haverford Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Haver-town. Mrs. Floyd accepted a temporary job at the Academy on Jan. 26, 1929, and retired 66 years later at age 90. By that time, she was known as the Grand Lady of the Academy and Modessa H.Floyd had earned praise from the board of directors of the Orchestra Association (1979) and City Council (1987).

Mrs. Floyd Maude to most -liked her job and enjoyed the music, which "came to me nice and quiet," she told a reporter in 1985. "I am here for every single show in the academy operas, concerts, ballets, even rock concerts, and I can tell you this: I've never had a problem with anyone." She was proud, also, of having 1 1 1- care in the powder room on the Academy's main floor. Born and educated in Philadelphia, she lived in West Philadelphia until she moved into the nursing home in 1995 after breaking a bone in her back. In 1958, she was married to Eugene Floyd, who died three years later.

She was a member of the First African Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia. She is survived by grandniece, Lynne Freeman; grandnephew, Marc Freeman; and two cousins.
