Clark admissions director Carlton Sidney Clark 61, who realized his dream of becoming a lawyer, then spent the rest of his life helping young people take up the paper chase, died Monday of a heart attack at Chestnut Hill Hospital. Mr. Clark, who had been a resident o' Mount Airy, guided students as direc- By Rusty Pray INQUIRER STAFF WRITER tor of admissions of the City University of New York School of Law, as director of several programs at Temple University School of Law, and as director of admissions at Lincoln University, a post he held from 1995 to 1997, when he retired. Mr.

Clark grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and graduated from John Bartram High School. He married his first wife, Jeannen Owens, in 1957, then went into the Army. After leaving the military, he earned a degree in elementary education from Temple University in 1972. He taught only briefly in the Philadelphia public school system before deciding to chase his lifelong ambition to go into law. With children to raise, and with his wife working for the U.S.

Postal Service, he quit teaching and went to Temple Law School. While pursuing his law degree, he worked as a counselor in the Temple Opportunities Program, a remedial program for students. He graduated in 1976 at age 3 38. "For as long as I knew him, he just always wanted to be a lawyer," said his first wife, now a teacher. They were divorced in 1975.

Mr. Clark continued to work for Temple Law School, serving as director of its discretionary admissions program and as assistant dean of admissions. It was at Temple that he met his current wife, Sheila, and they were married in 1977. The City University of New York School of Law hired Mr. Clark in 1982, and from then until he joined the Lincoln staff in 1995, he served primarily as the school's director of admissions, with two brief tenures as acting dean of students.

He continued to live in Philadelphia while working at the school in Queens. He received numerous awards during his career, including the Frederick Douglass Freedom Fighter Award from CUNY. Mr. Clark also is survived by sons Carlton Michael and Kenneth; daughters Kenna, Quanda and Carlene Sabrina; an adopted son, Nathaniel; stepdaughters Tamika and Desiree; two sisters; a brother; and 15 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m.

Before that, she worked for Curtiss-Wright an airplane manufacturer, and Philco an Carlton Sidney Clark Sr. electronics firm. Family history was a special interest of Mrs.
