B6 C South Jersey Obituaries Mary Donate Funeral home manager, 93 Mary "Mae" Donato, 93, who had helped her husband run a funeral home for many years, died Wednesday of natural causes at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, N.J. She lived in South Philadelphia. Mrs. Donato and her husband, Anthony P. Donato, operated a funeral home in South Philadelphia until he died in 1963. She then managed the family-owned business with her daughter Marie. Mrs. Donato was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior Citizens and the Order of the Sons of Italy. She enjoyed theater, bus outings, cruises, church functions and soap operas. Mrs. Donato was a 1925 graduate of South Philadelphia High School for Girls. In addition to her daughter Marie, she is survived by three other daughters, Josephine de Losso, Geraldine Leone and Alberta Silvestera; a grandson; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter. A viewing will be held at 8:30 a.m. today at 1522 S. Broad St. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Morris St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Convent of Divine Love, 2212 Green St., Philadelphia 19130. RiulJ. Christy Retired electrician, 80 Paul J. Christy, 80, a retired electrician, died Wednesday of heart failure at Frankford Hospital. He lived in the city's Holmesburg section. Mr. Christy was a member of the 16th United States Navy Construction Battalion Association, Catholic War Veterans of Philadelphia St. Josaphat's Post 471 and Roman Catholic High School Alumni Association, Class of 1939. He enjoyed rollerskating until his early 70s and was a devout Roman Catholic, said his nephew John J. Kline. Mr. Christy moved to the Immaculate Mary Home in Holmesburg about six years ago from Upper Darby. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and godchildren. A viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today, followed by a Funer al Mass at the Immaculate Mary Home, 2990 Home Avenue in Holmesburg. Burial will be at Fernwood Cemetery in Fernwood, Pa. Violet A. Chabrak Secretary, 75 Violet A. Gillespie Chabrak, 75, a retired secretary, died of pneumonia Thursday at South Jersey Hospital Systems Bridgeton Division. She had lived in Upper Pitts-grove Township for the last 22 years and previously lived in the Iona section of Franklin Township. She was born and raised in Philadelphia. Mrs. Chabrak worked for the Mater Dei Nursing Home in Newfield for more than a decade before retiring in 1991. She then did volunteer work at the home. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1801 Ladies Auxiliary in Clayton and the Order of the Eastern Star in Vineland. She enjoyed swimming, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was particularly fond of her dogs, Heidi and Tippy. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, John M.; a son, Patrick J. Dolan; a daughter, Doreen A. Beaston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Manahath Cemetery, Glass-boro. Teresa A. Logan Clerk, 76 Teresa A. Charlton Logan, 76, a retired clerk, died of lung disease Wednesday at the Sterling House in Deptford. She had lived in Deptford since January and previously lived in Philadelphia, where she was born and raised. Mrs. Logan worked for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in Philadelphia for more than a decade before retiring about 12 years ago. She was a parishioner of St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Halla-han High School for Girls in 1942. She enjoyed traveling. Angelo Sylvester Police officer, 80 Angelo Sylvester, 80, a retired detective sergeant in the Philadelphia Police Department, died of congestive heart failure June 30 at the Atlantic City Medical Center-Mainland Division, Pomona. He had lived in Mays Landing, Atlantic County, for the last three years, and previously lived in Clayton, Mount Laurel, North Wales and Philadelphia, where he was born and raised. Mr. Sylvester worked in the Philadelphia Police Department from 1950 until retiring in 1970. He then worked in the state Department of Unemployment Security office in Philadelphia. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Aleutian Islands. After the war, he served in the National Guard and then the Army Reserve, retiring in 1968 as a captain. Early in life, Mr. Sylvester worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He was a graduate of South Philadelphia High School and the Philadelphia Police Academy, and he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by his sons, Robert J. and John A.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother. He was the widower of Sunday Gallo Sylvester. Mr. Widen, a plumber for nearly 50 years, owned and operated William R. Widen Plumbing & Heating Co. in Gloucester City before retiring last year. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Europe and was a longtime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Townsend C. Young Post 3620 in Gloucester City. Mr. Widen was a parishioner of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church in Woodbury Heights and was a former parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Gloucester City. He was a member of the Sterling String Band for several years. He played the guitar, banjo and harmonica. As a volunteer, Mr. Widen helped rehabilitate houses in Camden.
