At the Tuesday and Wednesday unit meetings the Leavenworth League of Women Voters began a study of family courts. The League will explore the need for a family court in Kansas, discuss the problems that will be helped by a family court and study the political and practical problems Kansas may face in instituting a family court. Mrs. James N. Snyder chairman for the family court study, began by mentlon.nz some of the problems encountered in the handling of family questions In the present Kansas court system.

In Kansas problems involving different members of the same family are now handled by a number ot different courts, present system does not provide for exchange of information between courts concerned, and duplication of effort which results from overlapping jurisdition is costly in terms of legal expense and judicial time. In the present Kansas court system there is a lack of specialized services for investigating and counseling. Mrs. Snyder continued by ing about the Ideal family court. The purpose of such a court is the preservation of the family, its goal is help not ment.

In the Ideal family court jurisdiction over all family matters is vested in one court, a specialized staff counsels and Investigates, and information 1s secured by independent study.
