6 JOPLIN GLOBE, SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 1929. IN OPENING TODAY ttemodeled Crocker Plant Open for Reception to Public Afternoon and Night. An open Invitation has been 1s- lMued to the public of the Tri-State district to attend a reception at tjie newly completed plant of the Crocker Packing Company this afternoon and tonight, to be featured by inspection of the property, a musical program and a boxing exhibition. The hours of the reception are from 1:30 o'clock in the afternoon to 9 at night. Completion of the remodeled plant at an approximate cost ol $40,000 is preliminary to the entry of the concern into the Kansas and Oklahoma markets with its products.

For this reason, residents of those portions of the district are especially invited to visit the plant, located three miles north of Joplin on the Archer road, during the open house period today. Construction Work Completed. Workmen during the past week have hurried to completion the interior work in a new two-story addition and have prepared the entire layout for its inspection by the public. A staff of employes will be on hand to conduct visitors on tours of inspection. Featured on the entertainment program will be a 4-round boxing match between Flash Ramsey and Bobby Carter.

Musical numbers will Include renditions by a stringed orchestra, vocal solos by Thomas Lowe, Miss Inah Crocker and Raymond Wood, Joplin's "singing newsboy;" vocal duets by Mr. and Mrs. Art Kennamer; piano solos by Miss Genevieve Lott, and a piano recital by Glen Lowe. Orchestra to Play at Fair Tuesday Carthage, Aug. program will be given by the De Chromic orchestra of Webb City both morning and afternoon at the opening day of the Ozark State Fair here Tuesday.

The organization will appear under auspices of the 4-H Club. M. De Chromic is director. Starting at 10 a. m.

the following numbers will be played: "Normal," march; "Indian Boy," fox-trot; "Summit," march; "Chalma," waltz; "Safety," march, and "Military Escort," march, all by H. Bennett. In the afternoon, starting at 2 o'clock, the program will be: "Premium," march; "Melody to Youth," serenade; "Peerless," march; "La Alburera," Spanish waltz; "Cotton Top," rag; "Golden Plume," march, all by Will Huff. GALENA BOY HONORED IN SERVICE IN CHINA MISS PETERSON NAMED HOSPITAL SUPERINTENDENT Carthage, Aug. board of the new McCune-Brooks hospital, now nearing completion, has just named Miss Fannie Peterson, former superintendent of the Cartilage hospital, as superintendent to succeed Miss Genevieve Lynch, who has resigned, effective October 1.

Miss Peterson resigned as superintendent four years ago to accept a position as assistant superintendent of a hospital at St Joseph. She returned here some time ago. Miss Lynch plans to look after property interests at Branson. Steely, member of Company Eighth Infantry, now in China, has been designated as the outstanding man of the company for a week in competition with other members. He is a son of Mrs. Millie Bennett, 1005 East Fifth street, Galena, and a brother of Mrs. Ray Mitchell, 906 Mineral avenue. His father, W.

B. Steely, also resides here. Steely was with the army of occupation in Germany. He re-enlisted in 1927 and arrived in China in September of that year, and was assigned to Company stationed at Tongshan. He was advanced to the grade of sergeant in March, this year.

Long-Melugin. Carthage, Aug. was made today of the marriage of Miss Ann Melugin and G. A. Long, which took place at Joplin Sunday, June 30.

Mrs. Long is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. T.

Melugin, living northwest of here. At present they are residing at the farm of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A.

CROWN DRUG COMPANY PLANS STORE EXTENSION Kansas City, Aug. and recapitulation plans of the Crown Drug Company of Kansas City, preliminary to ex- tention of chain stores in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa and Nebraska were announced here today. Fourteen stores, in addition to thirty-six now operated by the company, are under option. Purchase of the Leffen Drug Company at Joplin, and the Hadley Drug Company at Miami, was announced yesterday.

Securities of the organization will be handled by the George H. Burr and Company, New York. 26 DEATHS OCCURRED IN PICHER LAST MONTH Picher, Aug. in Picher and vicinity in July totaled twenty-six, only one of which was due to unnatural causes, thia being Max Niberger, 11-year-old son of Mrs. Opal Minnich, 211 East Fourth street, who met death a week ago when thrown from a motorcycle onto the concrete highway.

The death toll for the seven months of this year is 172, an average of twenty-four deaths a month. Ruth Hackney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Hackney, 717 South McGregor street, and Willam Eugene Fennimoro of San Antonio, were married on Tuesday, July 30, at the home of the Rev.

C. L. Crippin at Muskogee, it was announced here today. Mr. and Mrs.

Fenntmore are graduates of Carthage high school. He was valedictorian of the class of 1918. Mrs. Fennlmore attended the University of Missouri and is a graduate of the Recreational Training school at Chicago. Mrs.

Hackney did settlement work under Jane Addams, well known social worker, and later served as playgrounds supervisor at Lake Charles, La. Also, she was Girl Reserve secretary at Lake Forest, 111., Laurel, and Mobile, Ala. Here, she served as assistant secretary of the Y. W. C.

A. Fennimore has been here for the last three weeks visiting his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Fennlmore, Oldest Bank in do pi in" 729 Cassil place. He left Tuesday for San Antonio.

He is an attorney. He received his A. B. degree from Stanford university at Palo Alto, and his doctor's degree in law from the Chicago university law school. He was admitted to the Texas bar in 1928.

Mr. and Mrs. Fennimore will be at home at 104 Slocum place, San Antonio. Accident Fatal to Farmer. Springfield, Aug.

Larkin Roberts, 55, a Willow Springs farmer and business man, was instantly killed at 10 a. m. today when a truck loaded with ties overturned at the foot of a hill five miles from Willow Springs on the Pine Creek road and he was crushed under the load.
