Can In ancient times, those newly-baptized in the Easter Vigil received a white robe which they wore during the entire week after Easter. The robe was a symbol of their resurrection to grace and of their pledge to live always as a child of God. On this Sunday, the Sunday after Easter, they laid aside these robes as a sign that now they were full-fledged Catholic Christians, ready to assume their responsibilities in the Church. This Sunday then was called "The Sunday for the Laying Aside of the White Garments" (Dominica in Albis Deponendis), and later shortened to "White Sunday." During Easter week, the neo- son reflect this emphasis on what it means to be a Christian. Our first reading today teaches that we must be of one mind and one heart; we must care for each other.

The second reading reminds us that we have been born as children of God, and we must act like it by our love of each other. The Gospel not only gives us a vivid "proof of Jesus' resurrection. It also gives us hope if we should ever backslide into sin: Jesus gave the power to forgive sin to his Church; he still shows us his mercy. Let us live according to our dignity, but if we fail, turn back immediately to the Lord for forgiveness. (Msgr.

Following a religious life spanning nearly 70 years, former St. Francis campus nursing supervisor Sister M. Irma Hilger died Feb. 22 in Broken Arrow, Okla. She was a native of Ost, who entered the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in 1935.

Sr. M. Irma ministered as supervisor of obstetrics at St. Francis Hospital from 1955-1958. In 1961 her missionary dreams were fulfilled when she traveled to St.

Lucia in the West Indies, establishing a government School of Nursing and rehabilitating and equipping an abandoned U.S. Air Force Hospital into a 100-bed government hospital, managed by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother for over 25 years. Sister M. For $80, a golfer can participate in the flighted, four-person scramble format tournament and have a chance at winning $10,000 in a hole-in-one competition. The entry fee includes green fees, golf cart, tournament shirt and lunch. Participants may also purchase prize drawing tickets and bid in a live auction offering a variety of sport and garden items.
