The hearingbefore Secretary Windom and Assistant-Secretary French was held to day upon the subject of the doty on iron car-truck ohannels used in the construction of railroad cars. The American manufacturers were well represented. The question in controversy is whether such iron is subject to duty as rolled or hammered iron at one and one-half cents per pound, or as manufactured iron not otherwise provided for. Seoretaiy Windom said he would in a few days announce his decision with regard to channel bars, but as to plate iron it would be necessary to give importer) an opportunity to be beard, and that manufacturers would be notified in case new testimony or arguments should be presented by importers which could weaken the force of what hs had heatd to-day.
