PAGE A-8 ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 1969 'Bold Ones' Rated Best Of New Television Shows By CLARKE WILLIAMSON How good are the new TV shows of the '69-70 season? In our first ballot on them, 81 per cent of TOP VIEW voters claim NBC's "The Bold Ones" should be kept all age favorite. ABC's 'Courtship of Eddie's Father" is a good second (but oldster voters are less enthusiastic). Voting reveals that viewers over 50 just don't hurry to watch new shows. For example, 52 per cent had not yet seen "Room 222." compared to 26 per rent of the middle aged and only 6 per cent of TV LOG 1TVI (ABC) KMOX (CBS) 4, KSD (NBC) $, KPLR 11, KDNL tt (R) Denotes Rebrtmdcast (C) Denotes Color Death Valley Days (C) 4 5 News Report (C) 11 Wilburn Bros. Violence Continues in Chicago High Schools CHICAGO (AP) More than 200 youngsters were arrested, were beaten and attendance dropped drastically during three days of violence in schools on the South and West sides of Chicago. Thirty-five youths were arrested Friday around Gage Park High School on the Southwest Side after noon recess brought fights in the surrounding area between black and white pupils. Four young persons were arrested when clashes erupted after a football game between Kely and Harper high schools on the University of Chicago's Stagg Field. Police said that disturbance apparently was not caused by racial antagonisms, but rather )y the intense football rivalry between the two schools. They blamed the high absenteeism on a rumor that the schools would be closed because of the earlier disturbances.

At Farragut High School, vio- ence blamed by police on a rivalry led to the arrest Thursday of 40 persons. School officials said police continued to patrol the halls at Farragut Friday and broke up several scattered melees. They said attendance returned to normal after teing down Wednesday and Thursday. A football game between Lindblom and Chicago Vocational high schools in another sector of the city was the setting of a melee Thursday. Some 3,000 youngsters spilled into the street after the game and fighting broke out over a four-block area.

A total of 146 persons were arrested Thursday in disturbances at seven schools. Police arrested 37 persons in disturbances at Crane and Gage Park high schools Wednesday. At Crane Friday, officials said classes were attended by only half the 5,500 students enrolled. "There is no one cause," said Julien Drayton, associate superintendent of schools. "However, if you're looking in broad terms for common denominators, today's students are going to be heard and communities are going to be heard.
