She resided in Cocoa Beach from 1977 1998. She is survived by her three children. Three brothers and sisters-in-law. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Quentin "Doc" Bud Powell. Visitation will be held from 2 pm 6 pm on Sunday, November 27, at RozelleJohnson Funeral Service, Anderson, IN.

BEST VIERA Shirley Mae Best, 73, of Viera, Florida, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 while at home surrounded by family and friends who loved her.

Shirley was truly a Woman of God and will be deeply missed. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Connie and son-in-law Marty Bee of Louisiana, daughter Carol and son-in-law Ruben Fernandez of Viera, daughter Carla and son-in-law Douglas Pruiett of Virginia, brother William Moore of Colorado, sister Daunis Golden of Oklahoma, niece Debbie Saunders of Colorado, nephew Donald Dawson of Colorado; nine grandchildren, Chantelle Pruiett, Tyler Bee, Colin Bee, Rachel Fernandez, Benjamin Fernandez, Douglas Pruiett, Isabelle Pruiett, Noelle Pruiett, Jefferson Q. Pruiett and great grandson Eric Harrington. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Quentin. Shirley was born in Denver, Colorado, on October 20, 1932.

She met Quent in 1950 at a Christian Camp in Colorado where they were married several months later. Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker who, together with Quent raised three daughters while living in Colorado, California and subsequently New Mexico. Shirley was always active in ladies' groups through their church and together with Quent, led the youth group at their church in Lompoc, California for 16 years. Shirley also formed and taught the first interdenominational Sunday School class in Lompoc for special education children. She truly had a love and desire to minister to children with special needs and later in life to women who had been abused.

Shirley served as head counselor in the 1980's at the The First Baptist Church of Merritt Island where she helped start the Counseling Center under the leadership of Pastor Larry Thompson. She received her Masters Degree in Counseling from Liberty University after going back to school in her 50's. Shirley and Quent taught several Sunday School classes and Bible Study groups throughout their 53 years together, always wanting to be an encouragement to others. After a serious surgical debacle which left her a paraplegic in 1995, Shirley continued to minister in whatever capacity possible. She and Quent continued to lead study groups in their church and ladies Bible studies at the local county jail.

Shirley had a true compassion for other women and blessed everyone she encountered, always, wanting to share her love for the Lord. Shirley was a true inspiration to everyone she met. Those who knew her rejoice as she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Quent, and her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Calling hours will be held from 2 pm to 4pm on Sunday, November 27, at Wylie-Baxley Rockledge Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1pm on Monday, November 28th in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Merritt Island.

Interment will be at the Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge. DOLORES EBERT MELBOURNE Mrs. Dolores M. Ebert, 79, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the Alterra Care Center, Melbourne, Florida. Mrs.

Ebert moved here in 1958 from her birthplace of Pittsburgh, PA. She was retired from the Brevard County School Board where she worked as a Transportation Supervisor. She was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church, WELS of West Melbourne, and the Palm Bay Senior Citizens Club, and enjoyed working with computers. Dolores is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles; son, Charles (Sheila) Ebert, daughter, Sharon (Craig) Graham; brother, Regis Fisher; and grandchildren, Robert, Sara, and Chad. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 30, from 10 am 11 am at the Florida Memorial Funeral Home, 5950 South U.S.

Florida Memorial has been entrusted with all arrangements. JAMES MARIELLI MELBOURNE James P. Marielli, SR, 85, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2005.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY and came to Melbourne in 1963. He served in the US Coast Guard as a sonar operator during WWII. He enjoyed many years as a ham radio operator where he liaisoned between police, disaster relief and other agencies worldwide. After retiring from the US Postal Service he did volunteer work at Patrick AFB. He was an active member of Ascension Catholic Church, and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

He attained the position of Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed working on their Law Enforcement Banquet for many years. He was predeceased by both of his wives: Marie, his wife of 43 years; and Helen, his wife of 9 years. He is survived by five children, fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 pm, Sunday, November 27 at Davis Funeral Home in Melbourne. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 pm Monday, November 28 at Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, with entombment following at Florida Memorial Gardens.

Davis Seawinds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. PAUL D. MARSHALL WEST MELBOURNE Paul D. Marshall, 65, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005. Born in Rhode Island he lived in Vero Beach and West Melbourne for the past 14 yearS.

Paul was a United States Coast Guard veteran and an avid golfer. For the past seven years he has worked for Wal-Mart Corporation, the last three as lead meat cutter at Sams Club in West Melbourne. His family includes his wife, Sharel Marshall and daughter, Sophia Caroline Marshall; best friends, Bob Harrell and Jerry Sciascia; and other family in Rhode Island. Services will be at 4 pm, Monday, November 28, 2005 at South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne. Donations in his memory should be made to his wife and daughter.

LEO BARNETTE MERRITT ISLAND Leo (Jim) Barnette, 68, passed away on November 22, at Cape Canaveral Hospital, following a brief illness. Jim as he was known to his friends, was born in Whitesville, West Virginia. He moved to Brevard County in 1966 working for Bendix Corp. He was assigned to the Merritt Island Launch Area Tracking Station, Kennedy Space Center.

Bendix Corp then transferred him to the Republic of Vietnam in September 1966. He flew 22 combat missions in a C-47 with the USAF. After several company assignments, including -flight equipment specialist flying to multiple countries from the New York areas, he returned to MILA at Kennedy Space Center in 1972. His career path continued with serving as president of a recreational vehicle manufacturing plant in Sebring, FL, and as vice president of a government contracting company in Frankfort, Germany. Upon retirement, Mr.

Barnette returned to Merrit Island where he was an avid golfer and sports fan. His survivors include daughters, Lisa and Suzanne, son Michael, and grandsons Austin and Cadin. Extended family members include Annette Partlow, sons Peter, Paul, Glen, grandsons Clayton, Jackson, Bradley, and granddaughters, Samantha and Savannah. He is also survived by his sister Jewel Smith and brother Larry D. Barnette and their family members.

GORDON JOHNSON MERRITT ISLAND Gordon S. Johnson, 81, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at Cape Canaveral Hospital.

Mr. Johnson was born in Becker, Minnesota; he served in the US Navy both during WWII and Korea. He graduated from the University of Minnesota was a retired electrical engineer who worked for many years in the space program and was also inducted into the University of Minnesota Hall of Fame for his work in the space program. His survivors include his two brothers, Bryon and Ronald Johnson both of Minnesota; and his dear companion Davina Moss. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, November 30 in the chapel at Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home.

EMMA LEWIS MELBOURNE Emma E. Lewis of Melbourne passed away on November 23, 2005. She was 80. She moved from New Jersey to Florida in 1989.She was a member of the VFW Post 4715 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, the Order of the Eastern Star in New, Jersey. A Life member of the American Legion 163 in Melbourne and also a member of the Navy Armed Guard WWII.

She is survived by her husband William Lewis; Daughters-Suzann Cole and Jean Brendel; Brothers- Roger Woodman and Edward Woodman. 5 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm on Monday November 28, 2005 at The American Legion. Powers. 93, a retired legal secretary, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at her residence. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Born in Talladega, Alabama she has lived in Brevard County for the last seven years. Laura is survived by her son, James (Elaine) Powers; three grandchildren, Jennifer PowersSulinski and her husband, Jeff; Ashley Powers and Brittany Powers; and two great grandchildren, Rayna and Tylor. Visitation will be held 5 pm 7 pm on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Beach Funeral Home East Chapel, Indian Harbour Beach. Her career in Brevard as a beautician made her many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother End Griffin. She is survived by her much loved son Tyler Christy and two sisters Beverly Osteen and Sara Cimmerman.

Mr. Paul Bennett Wittfeld, 85; died on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Sun Rise at Ivey Ridge. The West Palm Beach, FL native had worked for the U.S. Air Force as a superintendent of aircraft maintenance at Patrick AFB, FL and Wright AFB, Dayton, OH. The World War U.S.

Navy veteran had lived in Pooler for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Davis Wittfeld. Survivors include his faternal twin brother, Carl J. Wittfeld, Jr; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Russell Vopelak of Cumming and Pamela and Jeff Johnson of San Antonio, TX; a son and daughter-in-law Paul Jr. and Pamela Wittfeld of Charolette, NC; two grandsons, Ryan and Chad Wittfeld and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6 pm 7 pm on Saturday November 26 at the Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home West Chatham Chapel. ROSA L. WELCH COCOA Rosa Lena Welch, 86, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005. Rosa is survived by her grandsons, Robert Lee, Michael Clary, and Shaun Clary; granddaughters, Vicki Blair and Tammi Prillhart; son-in-law, Robert Lee; fourteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Her daughter, Barbara Lee preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 28 at New River Baptist Church, 2450 Aurora Road, Melbourne.

DAMON GRANT MELBOURNE Damon Grant, 85, of Melbourne, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 in Palm Bay.

Born in Wilton, Kentucky, he retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio before moving to Melbourne in 1976. Mr. Grant was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Melbourne.

Damon is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty; son, Daryl Grant and wife Sharon; his daughter, Diane Briggs; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. 2 pm on Saturday, November 26 at BrownlieMaxwell Funeral Home, Melbourne. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm also on Saturday at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home. JOHN J. MONTGOMERY MERRITT ISLAND John J. Montgomery, 65, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness. Born in West Palm Beach, FL, Mr. Montgomery moved to this area over thirty years ago from his birthplace.

He retired in 1991 from Bell South (Southern Bell) after 38 years of service. Currently he operated his own company, Utility Design Incorporated and served as its President and CEO. He was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. John is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, John Montgomery, Jr. and Patrick Montgomery; daughter, Melinda Fausey; sister, Sharon Shea; and six grandchildren.
