Japanese Empire Celebrates Feb. 11 Japan's celebration on Feb. 11 of the anniversary of the founding of the Nipponese empire already is attracting the attention of many travel-minded Americans, says K. Ogura of the N. K.

This historic date, known. in Japanese as the "Kigen-setsu," is assigned to mark the accession of the "first human emperor," named after his death Jinmu Tenno, and likened by one historian to Romulus, the foundling father of the ancient Roman state. The celebration will be staged great pomp and ceremony with special temple services, colorful rites at the imperial palace in the presence of the reigning royaf family, and with flower-bedecked gayety in which the people of the Land of the Rising Sun express their deepest sentiments. Also, each weekend, a similar cruise train will leave for California and the Southwest on a 14-day holiday trip with stops in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, reports J. E. Beard of the American Express travel service. These overland special train holiday tours are planned to meet the needs of those who prefer to travel in a group with congenial companions. The trips to California use the Santa Fe, the Southern Pacific, the Missouri Pacific and the Wabash railroads.

To Mexico the co-operating lines are Wabash, Missouri Pacific and the National Railroads of Mexico. Calvert Winter and Son Leave Professor Calvert Winter and his son, Calvert Winter, returned this week to their home in Kansas, where Professor Winter is on the faculty of the Spanish department at the University of Lawrence. They spent the holiday season at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard J.

'The great forest area, which incidentally contains the world's largest stretch of sand pine, lies between the counties of Deland and Ocala, and is readily accessible to sunseekers traveling southward by the Florida Sunbeam, operated jointly by the New York Central, the Southern railway and the Seaboard. Fishing and boating on rivers, lakes and prairie ponds are among the recreational facilities afforded by the Ocala forest. Swimming in the four large fresh-water springlakes and the slightly saline springs within the forest is popular. De La Salle Group Plans Meeting Rev. MacPhail Notes Beginning February 5, a number of high school graduates will enter the MacPhail School of Musle for courses leading to the bachelor of music degree. New classes in public school music, piano, voice, violin, and dramatic art will be organized. Weekly concerts with orchestral accompaniment have been scheduled in March.

One night each week has also been reserved for plays by advanced students. Arline Munson, pianist and pupil of Mrs. James Bliss, will be presented in recital assisted by Betty Prout, soprano. The dramatic department takes over the auditorium Tuesday evening when the juniors will present a three-act mystery play, Leopold Liegl, who recently completed his studies for the master of music degree, has joined the faeulty of DePauw university. Helen Brown and Ted Seward, MacPhall graduates, have taken positions at Clara City and Fulda, Minn.

Stanley R. Avery has returned from the Kansas City music convention. Signa C. Olsen, who ha. recently returned from New York, will conduct a series of lectures.

Helga M. Hovde will present two recitals Thursday evening. Returns to Chicago Miss Lorraine Anne Yaeger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A.

Yaeger, 3507 Pleasant avenue who has been the guest of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Chase of Chicago, will return home this morning.
