Lake (Ill.) HERALD OCTOBER 7, 1948 Society. Woman's Club Year Begins in American Legion Home TuesdayThe Grystal Lake Woman's will Oct. 12, with cutest be held open their year Bum. Tuesday, at the new meeting place, the American Legion Home. Mrs.

Jenner, Community Service chairman, will be in charge of the afternoon's program. She has secured as speaker Miss Esther Davis, who will talk on "Racial and Social Problems in Chicago." Mrs. Loretto O'Connor James will give several vocal selections. Members not having transportation to the American Legion Home may contact Mrs. Elmer Buhrow, transportation chairman.

Mrs. B. Scott Goodwin, president, announces that the year books, giving the program for the year, will be mailed to the members soon. Mrs. Arthur C.

Njaa has been appointed bylaws chairman, replacing Mrs. Ralph Boyle, who is unable to serve. Mrs. Alvin Querhammer will have charge of the rummage sale to be held Oct. 21 to 23 at the Odd Fellows hall.

Ail members are urged to have their rummage at the hall the first day of the sale. Shower, Miss Sunday Ann TietjenCompliments A bridal shower was given by Mrs. August Bengstein at her home Sunday afternoon honor of her niece, Miss Ann Tietjen, daughter of Mrs. Anna Tietjen, who will marry John Holsten of Chicago on Oct. 23.

Many of the guests were from Chicago, those se from Crystal Lake being Mrs. Ray Jurs, Mrs. George Schroeder, Miss Esther Schwemm, Mrs. LeRoy Wingate and Mrs. LeRoy Knuth.

A clothes hamper was filled with individual gifts of staple groceries, canned goods, and small household items, but in addition a Mixmaster was 1 the group Dinner Sunday Honors Bobby Zeyloth, Confirmand- Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zeyloth entertained friends at a delicious and bountiful dinner Sunday in honor of their son Bobby, who was confirmed at a four o'clock service in St. Thomas Catholic church. Bobby was happy to have Joseph Mayer for his sponsor.

Guests at the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mayer, Ruben Zeyloth of Glencoe, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Lippold Ridgefield, and Eric Anderson of Evanston.

Mrs. Anderson was unable to be with them. They all enjoyed a pleasant evening and presented Bobby with beautiful and useful gifts. Mrs. Mattie Garbe is Now Mrs.

Elmer TielkemeierFriends here have received word of the marriage of Mrs. Mattie Garbe to Elmer F. Tielkemeier, which took place at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church at Belvidere on July 17. The newlyweds are at home at 1133 Warren Belvidere.

Mfrs. Tielkemeier was the widow of Arthur J. Garbe, and with her husband and son, David A. Garbe, lived in Crystal Lake more than ten years. American Male Chorus to Sing at WoodstockThe Woodstock Navy club has booked the American Male Chorus to appear at Woodstock High school on Oct.

Her rhinestone necklace was a gift from the groom. The groom's mother wore teel blue and she and Mrs. Jones each had a corsage of yellow mums. Mrs. Harry Heinholtz assisted Mrs.

Jones in serving a buffet supper to thirty guests. After a short honeymoon the newlyweds are at home in Burton's Bridge. Seven from Crystal Lake Attend County A.L.A. MeetingOn Friday, Oct. 1, the McHenry County American Legion Auxiliary met at Union, Ill.

Sixty-four women were present, representing the 13 u- nits in the county. Those attending from Crystal Lake were: Frances Flood, Grace Ann Daily, Marie Reidy, Cowlin, Helen Anne Sandstrom and Mary Committee reports were given and a vote was taken to continue sending money to the state hospital at Elgin for cigarettes and also for operating a photostatic machine. A county past presidents' dinner will be held at 6:30 p. m. Oct.

21 in Wirth's Cafe, Fox River Grove. The next monthly meeting will be in Algonquin. Moose Lodge Increases Program of Activities- Crystal Lake Moose lodge met Tuesday with activity being stepped up for October to help expenses on the new building. A number of members have given blood during the past few weeks to save persons in this community. These members are to be thanked for standing by in these emergencies.

Fred Schneider was appointed chairman of the activity committee and Lyle Thomas chairman of the building committee. Lyle received the fellowship degree at the state convention. The District bowling league starts Sunday, Oct. 10 at Crystal Recreation Parlors. The Senior Regent's club met at the home of Ella Schulz, 430 MeHenry Oct.

Aug. 15 in a double ring ceremony at the First Methodist of Belvidere. Mr. Garbe is the church, the late Arthur J. Garbe and Mrs.

Elmer Tielkemeier. of Belvidere (Mrs. Mattie Garbe, formerly of Crystal Lake). Gladioli at the foot of an illuminated cross, set against a background. of ferns, formed the setting for the ceremony.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore white organdy with a yoke of white eyelet embroidery. Her full skirt had ruffles bordering the back and sides. Her veil. was of soft organdy with ruffled crown and her cascade bouquet was of white rosebuds stephanotis. The maid of honor and the two bridesmaids all wore off-the-shoulder gowns of blue organdy and wreaths of daisies in their hair.

They carried yellow daisy muffs. Two college classmates of the groom were his best man and groomsman while two brothers of the bride were ushers. A reception in the social of the church followed the wedding, and then the newlyweds left. on a. honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls, Canada, and other points East.

Mrs. Garbe is a June 1948 graduate of Northern Illinois State Teachers college. Mr. Garbe was in the navy years after his graduation: from Woodstock high school and 9 months' service on the Belvidere policy force. American Legion Auxiliary Meets Next Monday Evening- Legion Home.

Members of the American Legion Auxiliary and their guests are urged to attend a meeting at 8 p. m. next Monday. Oct. 11, in the American Legion Home.

Titus of Skokie, was a lovely June bride, when, in a service read by Dr. Ernest F. Tittle in the garden of her rarents' home, she became the wife of the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley J.

Smith of Crystal Lake. The bride's sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald of Waterloo, was matron of honor, another sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert Titus, also of Waterloo, and Mrs. Howard Silsdorf of Skokie were bridesmaids, all gowned in deliblue bouquets cate, bouffant, white gowns weaving cerise carnations.

The bride's exquisite gown was all of white lace a and her bouquet was mainly white orchids with some white roses, orange blossoms and stephanotis. Carol Titus and David Titus, niece and nephew of the bride, were flower girl and ringbearer. Mr. Smith was served by his brother. James, best man, and his bride's brothers, Donald and Robert Titus, as ushers.

Wedding music was presented by Mrs. Irvin C. Faber of Evanston. Many pre-nuptial festivities complimented the popular Miss Titus. who attended.

Evanston high school and Stephens college and then was graduated, from is a member Northwestern of Kappa uniTheta. As a stewardess with PanAmerican and Northwest air ways, for about two years after she received her college degree. she traveled to 37 countries. Mr. Smith, a graduate of Crystal Lake Community high school.

The newlyweds went to Florida on their honeymoon, returned to Evanston for a time, then went back to Miami, where he is now in the mobile business. Ardelle Crabtree, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Crabtree of Cary, became the lovely bride of Raymond Legel, son of Mrs.

George Legel of this city, at a beautiful candlelight ceremony at the First Methodist church in Cary on Aug. 28. The young couple now reside in their own apartment at 713 Lake St. Mrs. William Gallagher was pictured as she adjusted her bridal veil, during the reception in the American Legion Home, following her marriage to the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Manis J. Gallagher of Berwyn on Aug. 28. MISS, and CLAIRE Mrs.

Roscoe WOLFE, Wolfe daugh- of ter Crystal Lake, and Bill Gallagher were married in the First Methodist church by the Rev. Gilbert Weisshaar. The was beautifully decorated with baskets of white gladiola and berry. Charmingly gowned in white marquisette, fashioned in period style with high neck, long sleeves and cascades of ruffles, the bride wore a fingertip veil held in place by a coronet and she carried a shower bouquet of gardenias. The bride's attendants were also all in white except that their flowers and headbands were cerise gladiola.

Miss Neva Storgaard of Chicago was maid of honor, Miss Helen Marie Gallagher of Berwyn and Miss Joyce Kraft of Downers Grove were bridesmaids. For the groom, Wade Hamby of Berwyn was best man. Earl Kunel and Donald Kunel of Chicago were ushers. Raymond Olson was organist and Mrs. Ronald Rogers, nee Margaret Curtiss, sang two selections.

"Ich Liebe Dich" and "The Lord's Prayer." The bride's mother wore 2 light beige dress with brown accessories and an orchid corsage while the groom's mother chose a brown dress and matching accessories with an orchid corsage also. Gardenia corsages were given to the two maternal grandmothers, Mrs. G. F. Kraft of Bangor, grandmother of the bride, and Frank Ort of Fox River Grove, grandmother of the groom.

Following the wedding ceremony, a reception for more than 150 relatives and friends was held in the American Legion Home, out-of-state guests including Mr. Wolfe's nephew, Richard Wolfe, and his wife of Omaha, and Mrs. Wolfe's sister, Mrs. Lester Schwedt and her five children from Detroit, Mich. Assistants at the reception were Miss Marion Tuft, Miss Cynthia Quayle, and Miss Mary Margaret Hull.

A buffet supper was served by the members of Circle 2 of the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Dancing followed to the music of Bud Kunel's orchestra.
