Robert Schram was elected president; Wayne Murphy, vice president and Herschel Wheeler, only remaining- member of the former! board, continues as secretary. Schram, Murphy and 'Leonard Phillabaum were appointed recently to fill the vacancies created by the resignations of Lyman McGuire and Velva Hanaway. The post held by Ralph Overman was left vacant when his term expired last Dec. 31 and the commissioners did not name a successor.

Schram's term will expire Dec. 31, while Murphy will serve until Dec. 31, 1957. Phillabaum's term expires Dec. 31, 1958 and Wheeler's term will terminate Dec.

31, 1956. Following their organization, the board members discussed the requests for a 40-hour week for hospital personnel and for salary increases for nurses. Local members of the Indiana State Nurses Association have asked that all private duty nurses be increased from $12 to $14 per day. The Local Finance of Peru was awarded the contract to collect old hospital accounts. Collection fee will be 25 per cent, according to Walter O'Brien, company manager.

The board also approved registration of Dukes Hospital with the American Hospital Association, this being necessary for the hospital's accredation. Dr. Gilbert Stansell, who is now with the Public Health Service, New York City, has been hired as a pathologist here starting part Aug. 1. He will replace Dr.

James E. McFadden of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, who announced that he would be unable to continue. Dr. Stansell will be at Dukes Hospital three mornings each week.

He is to receive one third on all work done in that department. He will divide his time between Dukes Hospital and Memorial and St. Joseph Hospitals, at Logansport. A contract between Dukes Hospital and the Red Cross for Red Cross blood was signed by the trustees. The blood has been supplied free to the hospital and this will continue as in the past.

However, due to the heavy cost of processing the blood, it has been necessary to ask the hospitals benefiting from the blood program to share a cost of the processing. The hospital will pay $2.35 per pint, for cost of processing. The board also voted to increase the cost 'of giving blood from $5 to $7. The board will meet again Thursday evening to discuss changing of the time of the hospital's fiscal year and to discuss next year's budget which must be prepared in July.
