B4 Monday, July 3, 1995 THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER Death Notices Death Notices Obituaries Gale Gordon, 89, actor in radio, TV and films regular roles in seven weekly broadcasts: Fibber McGee and Molly (as Mayor LaTrivia), My Favorite Husband, Our Miss Brooks, The Alice Faye-Phil Harris Show, The Halls of Ivy (Ronald Colman), The Dennis Day Show and The Great Gilder-sleeve. Mr. Gordon had no trouble making the transition to the small screen. He became a regular on Pete and Gladys, Sally and The Jack Benny Show as well as the TV version of Our Miss Brooks. Mr.

Gordon and Bob Sweeney starred from 1956 to 1958 in a CBS series, The Brothers, a rare exception to his supporting-actor status. He also appeared in feature films, often as a stuffy military officer. They included Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys, All in a Night's Work, Dont Give Up the Ship, Visit to a Small Planet and All Hands on Deck. Mr. Gordon was born in New York City on Feb.

2, 1906, son of a vaudeville performer and an actress. The family lived in England for several years, which resulted in Mr. Gordon's precise, slightly accented speech. After a few years of touring the United States in stock companies, he landed in Hollywood as network radio was growing in importance. He took time out from his career for World War II service on a Coast Guard ship.

While appearing on the Death Valley Days radio show in 1940, Mr. Gordon met and married actress Virginia Curley. They had no children. Death Notices C0ATES June 30, 1995, DIANA M. Int. wilt held in Mt. Lawn Sharon HiM, PA. Arr. by POWELL FUNERAL By Bob Thomas ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES Gale Gordon, 89, whose prissy manner and comic tantrums made him a favorite on Our Miss Brooks and three Lucille Ball series, has died.

Mr. Gordon died Friday at the Redwood Terrace Health Center in Es-condido of cancer, Joan Seward, a nurse at the center, said Saturday night. His actress wife, Virginia, died a few weeks earlier in the same nursing home, she said. Mr. Gordon's most enduring performances were delivered on The Lucy Show, on which he appeared from 1963 to 1968 as the stubborn, stuffy bank manager Mr.

Mooney, whose life was bedeviled by his part-time employee Lucy Carmichael. From 1968 to 1974, Mr. Gordon played Lucy Carter's equally blustery brother-in-law and employer at the Unique Employment Agency on Here's Lucy. Miss Ball considered Mr. Gordon so indispensable that she cast him again in her short-lived 1986 series Lije with Lucy.

For nine years on radio and television, Mr. Gordon grumped as the high school principal Osgood Conk-lin on Our Miss Brooks. When the original Mr. Wilson on Dennis the Menace, Joseph Kearns, died in 1962, Mr. Gordon took over the role.

His verbal skills made him perhaps the busiest actor on radio in the years just before television knocked radio drama and comedy aside for good. In the early 1950s, he was playing Deaths Here John Rosolowicz, 84, a cartoonist who offered a bit of whimsy to anyone who has ever peeled open a piece of Bazooka gum, died Thursday at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He lived in West Oak Lane. Mr. Rosolowicz drew cartoons until the day of his death, said his cousins.

He used the pseudonym "John Rosol" because the shorter name fit better next to a cartoon, said his cousin, Kathleen Battaglia. A graduate of Germantown High School, Mr. Rosolowicz received a bachelor of arts degree from the Philadelphia College of Art. He began and remained a freelance artist, drawing for King Fisher, Saturday Evening Post and Globe magazine. His most widely circulated work came in the form of the wrappers folded around pieces of Bazooka Bubble Gum.

There, he created the adventures of Bazooka Joe and a motley crew of friends, his cousins said. He also published a children's book, The Cat's Meow, his cousins said. His last project was a cartoon book on safety for the Philadelphia Transit Co. Survivors: several cousins. Services: viewing, 10:30 a.m.

Friday, Nasevich Funeral Home, 109 East Tabor Rd. in Philadelphia; funeral, 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home; burial, Oakland Cemetery. Dorothy L. Baines, 67, a retired Philadelphia elementary school teacher and Northeast resident for the last 36 years, died at her home Tuesday after an apparent heart attack.

Early on, she taught at the George Meade and John Barry Elementary Schools, but she spent the last 20 years of her career at Thomas Holme Elementary in the Northeast.

Jenkins also co-founded the Moreland Hills 4-H Club and was active in the Willow Grove Welcome Wagon program for many years. Donald Grace, 48, a counselor at the Youth Study Center, died Thursday at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He lived in Mount Airy. Born and raised in North Philadelphia, Mr. Grace attended Edison High School. He enlisted in the U.S.

Army and served in Vietnam during the war. After six years of active duty, he served several more years in the Army National Guard. For 18 years, Mr. Grace was a counselor at the Youth Study Center, the city's detention center for juveniles. "He enjoyed working with the kids.

He felt like he was giving something back to the community," said his fiancee, Gwendolyn Walker. He was taking courses at the Community College of Philadelphia for a college degree. In his spare time, Mr. Grace was an avid bicycle rider, and he often rode to and from work. He was also an impeccable dresser, known for his stylish taste, Walker said.
