The Children of Paradise ran 3Vi hours and was the most lavish and costly French film made by the time it premiered in March 1945, alter the Liberation. Starring II By Christopher Burns ASSOCIATED PRESS PARIS Marcel Carne, 90, the French film director who braved the Nazi occupation to make The Children of Paradise and Night Visitors, died yesterday. He died at the Clinique du Plateau in the Paris suburb of Clamart, a hospital spokesman said. No cause of death was given.

Mr. Carne, whose style became known as "poetic took the camera out of the soundstage and into the street. He teamed up with Jacques Prevert to shoot two Marcel of his two greatest films during the Nazi occupa- tion of France. To indirectly denounce the Nazis, Mr. Carne used a medieval story in the 1942 film Les Visiteurs du Soir (Night Visitors), and portrayed the lives of a theater troupe in Les En-fants du Paradis (The Children of Paradise), shot from 1943 to 1945.

Among later works were Trois Chambres a Manhattan (Three Rooms in Manhattan) in 1965, with Robert de Niro, and Les Assassins de VOrdre (Killers of the Order) in 1976, with Jacques Brel. La Bible, a documentary that earned him the ecumenical prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1977, was his last film.

A 1984 slory in The Inquirer described Questar as the "undisputed Rolls-Royce of the nation's telescope business. Its ultra-precise, handcrafted telescopes have probed the heavens from the lofty perches of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's space shuttles and satellites." Celebrity customers and astronomy buffs such as Johnny Carson and Marlon Brando paid thousands for telescopes, and many top law-enforcement agencies use them for long-distance surveillance. Mrs. Braymer had been the decorating editor for nine years for Woman's Day magazine and later authored a cookbook, a book on decorating and a yet-to-be published book detailing the telescope field, Mr. Braymer's life, and Questar.

Also a homemaker, for 15 years she was the wife of Raymond Alvin Dodd, who predeceased her. She and Mr. Braymer were married for many years. In addition to her son, she is survived by three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held before Thanksgiving Day at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1680 Aquetong New Hope.

The 6-foot-6-inch Mr. Blackwell was nicknamed "The Whip" in 1947 for his dazzling side-armed delivery. That same season, he set a National League record for righthanders when he won 16 consecutive games. Mr.

Blackwell announced his retirement midway through the 1953 season, but returned in 1955 and pitched in two games with the Kansas City Athletics. He finished with career 82-78 record and 3.30 ERA. Braymer and her husband, Lawrence, founded Qtestar an optical firm based in New Hope, in 1950. After his death in 1965, she continued as president until 1976 and as chairwoman until her death.
