Wildcat Star Is Given Mention NEW YORK Bradley, named to the 1964 All-America basketball team selected by the Associated Press, was high school star at Crystal City, before he went to Princeton. Dave Stallworth, Wichita's star on the All-America, is from Dallas. Jim Barnes of Texas Western, who made the third team, is from Tuckerman, Ark. The honorable mentions include Willie Murrell of Kansas State, Jim Davis of Colorado, Billy "oster of Drake, George Wilson of Cincinnati, John Savage of North Texas and Bud Koper of Oklahoma City. zel of Davidson, Mel Counts of Oregon Slate and Ron Bonham of Cincinnati were named as the second team.

Howard Komives of Bowling Green, Paul Silas of Creighton, Bill Buntin of Michigan, Barry Kramer of NYU and Jim Barnes of Texas Western formed the third team. Bonham and Kramer made the 1963 All-America as juniors, along with Bradds, but failed to repeat. The Ohio State star similarly got off to a poor season, but went on a scoring splurge that put him back in the running and also sparked the Buckeyes into contention for the Big Ten crown. Nash, after an off-season as a junior, reverted to the fine form he showed as a sophomore and led Kentucky to the Southeastern Conference title. Hazzard's speed and floor generalship helped put unbeaten UCLA at the top of The Associated Press rankings as well as the Big Six conference.

Bradley shattered virtually all of the Ivy League scoring records at Princeton, while Stallworth paced Wichita's drive for the Missouri Valley crown. Says Browns Trade to Get Modzelewski CLEVELAND (AP) The Cleveland Plain Dealer said Wednesday it had learned that the Cleveland Browns have obtained Dick Modzelewski, veteran defensive tackle, from the New York Giants in exchange for Bobby Crespino, an offensive end from Mississippi. Modzelewski, who weighs 265 pounds, is 32 years old but still is considered one of the top defensive linemen in the National Football League. He is part owner of a Cleveland restaurant and makes his home here. He played collegiate football at Maryland.

Crespino was the Browns' first draft choice three years ago, but has seen little action since he joined the team. He alternated with John Brewer, another former Mississippi star, last season. The Plain Dealer said Crespino talked with Coach Blanton Collier whDe in Miami, for the Playoff Bowl game in January and asked that he either be traded or permitted to play more. This Is the first deal by the Browns since the conclusion of the 1963 season in which they had a 10-4 record and finished second to the Giants in the NFL's Eastern Conference. It's Been a Long, Long Time Since Texas Last Was a Champion Chisox Get Jolt When Ward Is Hospitalized SARASOTA, Fla.

Ward, the Chicago White Sox third baseman who just missed being American League Rookie of 1963, is in traction in Sarasota Memorial Hospital because of a back injury. The 24-year-old, who lost out to teammate pitcher Gary Peters in the run for rookie honors, was rushed to the hospital Tuesday when something went wrong in his back as he straightened out to make a tli row. Although rays indicate the injury was not of a serious nature, Ward was placed in traction in order to stretch the affected muscle. Ward led the White Sox in practically every department in offense last year. He led in batting with .295, total bases with 289, runs batted in with 84, doubles with 34, and hits with 177.

His 22 home runs tied him with Dave Nicholson in that department. Sox officials were concerned since Ward sat out the final week of the 1963 season with a back injury. Ward also reported to camp at 222 pounds, far over his listed weight of 185. The listing, however, is incorrect since he was playing at 1S5 pounds throughout the 1963 season. Ward was in obvious pain on the training table in the clubhouse before being taken to the hospital on the recommendation of Dr.

Anthony Gazauskas, the team physician. Ward will be out of action for at least several days and possibly a week or so. Rookie Don Buford took over at third base. Buford, originally a third baseman, is being converted into a second baseman to replace Nellie Fox, who was traded to Houston during the winter. By TED MEIER Associated Press Sports Writer They still had the center jump after each basket in college basketball when Texas last won the undisputed championship of the Southwest Conference.

The Aggies sewed up the SWC title for the first time in 41 years with a 70-66 double overtime victory over Texas Christian Tuesday night and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney for 'the national collegiate championship. It was a fitting climax to Shelby Metcalf's first year as Aggie head coach and he hopes for an easier time against Texas Western next Monday at Dallas in the NCAA competition. The Aggies' victory overshadowed little Rider College's upset 66-63 triumph over the unpredictable NYU Violets and San Francisco's 60-47 defeat of Santa Clara for the Dons' 16th straight success.
