si Tuesday, May 20, 1997 THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER F7 High School Scoreboard Perriman and Eagles are talking Kratchman. HR: G-Jason Troccoli 2, Ricky Grasso, DeMarco FLC-Congdon. His agent says the free-agent wide receiver from the Lions would simply love to play in Philadelphia. High Schools Overbrook pounds out playoff win "He was very impressed," Rosenhaus said of Perriman. "He met with Jon Gruden and talked about the offense.

He talked with Ty Detmer and loved it. Brett hopes to become an Eagle. He wants to play for a winner." Gruden is the Eagles' offensive coordinator and the inventor of what he calls the "Jersey Shore" offense. Detmer is the Eagles' starting quarterback. The Eagles have declined to comment specifically on players with whom they are negotiating contracts, but it's no secret that landing a proven wide receiver is at the top of their wish list.

The only impact wide receivers back from last year's team are Irving Fryar and Chris T. Jones. Fryar is 34, and Jones, who will be entering his third season, is still trying to develop consistency. Holdover Freddie Solomon is not expected to blossom into a pass-catching machine this coming season, and Dialleo Burks is fresh off the practice squad. Sixth-round pick Antuan Wyatt looked great at mini-camp, but he's still a rookie.

Mark Seay, last season's extra wide receiver, has not been invited back. Perriman, a former teammate of Eagles quarterback Rodney Peete in Detroit, could be a perfect fit in Philadelphia. He caught 94 passes, five for touchdowns, last season, averaging 10.9 yards per catch. Only five players in the entire league caught more passes, and his 1,021 receiving yards ranked him eighth in the NFC and 10th in the league. Teaming with Herman Moore, Perriman gave the Lions the most prolific 1-2 receiving combination in the NFL.

Unfortunately for the Lions, Perriman's improvement left them un By Gary Miles INQUIRER STAFF WRITER The Eagles' search for a standout wide receiver got serious yesterday when they met with unrestricted free agent Brett Perriman, the NFL's sixth-leading pass-catcher last season. Perriman, 31, is a nine-year veteran who has played the last six seasons with the Detroit Lions. Before heading back to Atlanta last night, the 1996 Pro Bowl alternate passed a physical and met with the Eagles' coaches at Veterans Stadium. Drew Rosenhaus, Perriman's agent, said the Lions' all-time leader in catches would be delighted to play for the Eagles. Phillips fires a 65 for victory By Mayer Brandschain FOR THE INQUIRER Wayne Phillips of Lehigh Country Club shot a course-record 5-under-par 30-3565 to win the inaugural $9,715 Henry-Griffitts Classic of the Philadelphia PGA in a field of 116 yesterday at Heidelberg Country Club in Bernville, Pa.

PHA encourages minority and woman owned businesses to submit proposals and participate in joint ventures. JOHN P. WHITE JR. DIRECTOR is seeking $2 million per season. Perriman was paid $1 million last season, but the Lions, who are paying Moore, quarterback Scott Mitchell and running back Barry Sanders each $4 million per season, can't fit a big increase for him under their salary cap.

The Eagles, on the other hand, have yet to re-sign running back Charlie Garner and offensive line- man Joe Panos and are believed to be about $5.4 million under the cap. Perriman also has visited the Kan- sas City Chiefs, Denver Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins. Perriman's best NFL season was 1995. He caught a career-high 108 passes for 1,488 yards and nine touchdowns. A knee sprain suffered in the first quarter of the Lions' NFC wild-card playoff game against the Eagles on Jan.

7, 1996, left him hobbled at the beginning of last season, but he recovered to lead the NFC with 29 third-down catches for 356 yards. Perriman has played both the slot and wide-receiver positions. Known for his acceleration off the line of scrimmage, he also can return' punts. Perriman, who led the Lions in receiving in 1991 and '92, is regarded as a gritty player who can go over the middle to make the big. catch.

The Lions acquired him from the New Orleans Saints in 1991 for a fifth-round draft pick. He had played four seasons for the University of Miami before playing three" with the Saints after being drafted in the second round in 1988.
