Coleman, 35, joined Channel 29 in February 1993 from Richmond, Va. His WTXF swan song is Saturday. News director Roger LaMay is releasing Coleman from the remainder of his two-year contract, which was to have run until February 1998.

Various 'TXF staffers will fill in for Coleman with Jacqueline Boulden until a permanent replacement is named, LaMay says. Eyes ahead. Oscar-nominee Laurence Fishburne (What's Love Got to Do With It) will narrate CBS News' Before Your Eyes: One Last Chance, the real-life story of a teenage carjacker who tries to go straight. No air date. CBS cameras It's deja vu all over again for Roger LaMay.

Ten years after launching Channel 29's The Ten O'clock News, LaMay is spearheading another ambitious start-up. Good Day, Philadelphia, hosted by 'TXF resident good guy Don Tollefson and a female to be named later (best bet: Tracey Matisak), should be up and running in April, LaMay says. Good Day will air from 7 to 9 a.m. weekdays, competing against ABC's Good Morning America on WPVI, NBC's Today on WCAU, and CBS This Morning on KYW. A separate news show, with a solo anchor, is slated for 6:30 a.m.

The bleary-eyed LaMay has pored over more than 400 audition tapes and resumes to fill the morning show's 32 hires. (The a.m. staff, headed by former Ten O'clock News exec producer Mary Fay, will be separate from Ten O'clock's 53 full-timers.) Thanks to the deep pockets of 'TXF's new owner, Fox, the newsroom at Fourth and Market has been doubled in size not to mention, computerized, finally. And a new interview set is being built by the same folks who designed Dan Rather's new digs on CBS Evening News. "This project makes our original start-up look easy," says news boss LaMay, who at 42 is showing specks of gray in his brown beard.

"Because of what three previous Before Your Eyes specials, "One Last Chance" follows real-life events as they unfold without re-creations or the use of a correspondent. All Eyes broadcasts "adhere rigidly to CBS News standards," CBS says. No fear here. With 60 Minutes expanding to year-round original episodes, look for pieces by some of boss Don Hewitt's favorite CBS Newsies: Bob Simon, Bob Schieffer, Anthony Mason and Susan Spencer. Hewitt says 60 Minutes won't be hurt at 7 p.m.

Sundays by Dateline NBC, to launch in the spring. "We're the broadcast they've all been trying to clone all these years. Nobody has been able to clone it, but I give them an A for effort."
