Soybean futures Clean car Blue chips take steep fall Alton Evening Telegraph Tuesday, May 30, 1972 B-5 By ED DE MOCH AP Business Writer CHICAGO (AP) Soybean and grain futures wero heavily sold on early dealings on the Chicago Board Trade today. A principal factor in the weakness was failure of a definite trade pact involving agricultural commodities to come out of the recent Moscow talks. The trade apparently had expected that President Nixon or his aids would announce before the talks ended that a Russian commitment to buy grains from the United States had been obtained. Soybean futures were down nearly 3 cents on the opening and fell a total of 414 cents within the first hour. Soybean meal declined $1.50 a ton and soy oil fell back nearly 30 points.

Wheat prices eased nearly 2 cents and corn declined cents. Oats lost nearly 1 cent but iced broilers were little changed and trade was slow. The weather also was a factor In the liquidation but not quite so strong as the trade agreement. There were reports that rain fell in generous amounts in wide sections of the country during the holiday weekend. New crop corn futures as well as oats and all four wheat options were under strong selling pressure.

(AP) Sheriff Arthur Helm's department recovered its sparkling clean squad car Monday after it had gone a way toward helping a youth with a problem of boredom. Helm said the 16-year-old ward of Ozaukee County's welfare department had received permission Sunday to wash patrol cars in the county garage as a means of keeping busy. The car and the youth soon disappeared. The car was found abandoned and undamaged Monday.

The noon Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks gained 2.71 to 073.96.

On Dec. 18, the Dow closed at 875.14. The all-time closing high for the blue-chip indicator was 995.15 set on Feb. 9. 1980.

Advances led declines by a small margin on the New York Stock Exchange. Analysts said there was little in the news background to stimulate the market's rise. They noted that many investors had stepped out of the market to sec how long the market would continue its advance. The Dow average has climbed some 46 points in less than 3 weeks. Oils, motors, rubbers and mail order-retail were up.
