"After the adrenaline of the first child has worn off, she's left to deal with this reality. We're going to take her to the next step of the kid's being a fact of life." So what's the child's name? Since Bergen recently received an honorary doctorate from Penn (27 years after she flunked out), Penn may get the nod, he says. "We all ragged her about the Ph.D.," Peterman says. "We told her it was a pretty cheap way to get a diploma." Politically, the withdrawal of presidential non-candidate Rom Perot "may have killed a couple of funny jokes, but we may rework them," says Peterman. No matter.

Whoever wins will provide plenty of fodder. "Something happens to people when they get into office," he says. "They all get funny." Barkann to Boston. Channel 3 exile Michael Barkann has landed in Boston as sports director at independent WLVI-TV. He starts Monday for general manager Peter Temple, station manager at Channel 10 from 1983 to '85.
