TRAYCIK, much beloved curate at All Saints' Anglican Church, in Charlottesville, VA, died suddenly and unexpectedly at 1:15 A.M. on Feb. 8, 1995, in the emergency room of the Univ. of Virginia hospital, after complaining of chest pain the previous day. The last rites were administered by The Rev.

Glenn M. Spencer, rector of the church, assisted by The Rev. J. Paul Ward, the other curate of the parish. Father Traycik was born July 5, 1947, a native of Flint, MI.

He was graduated B.A. from Alma College in Michigan, and then took the J.D. degree from the Detroit College of Law. He served four years as prosecuting attorney of Ogemaw County in West Branch, MI. Moving to Austin, TX, he was staff counsel for the Republican Party of Texas during a statewide redistricting process.

From its earliest days a leader in the Continuing Anglican movement, Father Traycik was instrumental in organizing the Congress of St. Louis in 1977, where traditionalists dissatisfied with changes introduced in the Episcopal Church in this country and the Anglican Church of Canada met to establish conservative, traditional Anglican jurisdictions in both countries, a movement which has now spread throughout the English- speaking world. He was selected to read to the assembled delegates the Affirmation of St. Louis, which is the fundamental confessional charter which binds together Anglican traditionalists everywhere. He was selected to be editor, from 1982 to 1986, of The Christian Challenge, the worldwide news magazine for Anglican traditionalists, succeeding its celebrated founder, the late Dorothy Faber.

But in 1986, sensing a vocation to the priesthood rather than continuing to work for the Church as a layman, he relinquished the editorship, and entered the Phila. Theological Seminary (formerly the Seminary of the Reformed Episcopal Church), where he was graduated M. Div. magna cum laude. He then served curacies (assistant pastorates) at St.

Alban's Anglican Church in Joppa, MD, and at St. Francis Anglican Church in Spartanburg, S.C., where he was parochial vicar during the absence of the rector, The Rt. Rev. Robin Connors, who spent most of the year in South Africa, organizing that country's traditional Anglican churches into a separate province. When the American Episcopal Church merged with large segments of the Anglican Catholic Church to form the Anglican Church in America, Father Traycik, already an acknowledged expert on canon (church) law, served as senior canonist and drafted and presented the entire body of national canons which were adopted at the unifying synod in Deerfield Beach, FL in Oct.

1991. In Nov. 1993, Father Traycik accepted a call to be senior curate at All Saints' Church in Charlottesville, a part-time position to which he dedicated all his hours not spent at his secular work as a law editor for The Michie Company, the publisher of law case reports. He developed a reputation for his knowledge of liturgical practices and chuch music, being an authority on the authentic chant of Anglican usuage. He was a member of Mensa, the high I.Q.

society. Father Traycik is survived by his sister, Margaret Traycik, of Davison, MI, The Office for the Burial of the Dead and a Choral Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at All Saints' Anglican Church, Ivy Road (Rt. 250W) at 1 P.M., on Feb. 11.
