Pittsburgh won for the sec- ond time in the three-game se- ries and took four of six from the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants following a 1-8 West Coast trip. King hit a run-scoring single in the first and keyed a four-run third with a two-run single. Jerry Don Gleaton (1-0) survived Anderson's two-run homer in the seventh the Dodgers' fourth pinch homer against Pittsburgh in six games to pitch 2 innings for his first NL victory.

Padres 5, Cubs 1 CHICAGO Bruce Hurst pitched a six-hitter for his third complete game in five starts as San Diego beat Chicago. Hurst (54). who beat Chicago for the first time in six career starts, walked none for the second straight game and struck out seven. Hurst has won four of five starts overall and has a 1.93 ERA in his last 42 innings over five games. Gary Sheffield singled twice and doubled for the Padres, increasing his average over the last 26 games to .346 (37 for 107).

Louis for its eighth victory in nine games. With the Reds trailing, 6-2, Barry Larkin and Chris Sabo hit consecutive home runs off Donovan Osborne the third homer of the year for each. Braggs doubled and scored on Paul O'Neill's single. Cris Carpenter (2-2) walked Scott Brad- ley with two outs and Reggie Sanders singled home the tying run. Astros 5, Expos 3 HOUSTON Rafael Ramirez capped a four-run first inning with a run-scoring single and Jeff Bagwell hit a 408-foot home run to lead Houston to the vio tory over Montreal.

Pete Harnisch (3-5) pitched the first five innings and earned his first victory since May 1. He allowed three runs and five hits while striking out four and walking four. Bagwell extended his hitting streak to eight games with his seventh home run of the season. The fifth-inning shot was his first homer since May 19. scoreless innings as the A's completed a three-game sweep.

Dennis Eckersley got three outs, recording his 19th save in 19 chances and his 24th save in a row, despite allowing Phil Plantier's two-run single with two out in the ninth. Eckersley, one short of Tom Henke's major-league record for consecutive saves, then retired Ellis Burks on a ground out Royals 3, White Sox 1 KANSAS CITY. Mo. Brian McRae singled home the deciding run, and struggling Mike Magnante pitched Kansas City over slumping Chicago. Magnante (24), hoping to stay in the rotation, gave up' five hits and one run in seven innings, lowering his ERA from 7.90 to 6.54.

His only other major-league victory was over the White Sox, on May 18. Chicago has won just once in its last nine games. Greg Hibbard (54), who started at 4-0, fell to 54 after giving up eight hits in 7 innings. Jeff Montgomery, the third Kansas City pitcher, worked the final inning for his 10th save. Tigers 10, Brewers 4 MILWAUKEE Cecil Fielder hit a pair of two-run homers and drove in five runs as Detroit stopped a six-game losing streak by trouncing Milwaukee.

Fielder, who had just one home run since April 23, hit an RBI single in a five-run first inning and homered in the fourth and sixth innings, giving him 10 home runs this sea- HOU. Kevin Ritz (1-1) allowed three runs and eight hits in 5V4 innings, recording his first victory in 30 appearances since Sept. 5, 1989. Bill Wegman (5-5) was tagged for seven runs and six hits in four innings, including four unearned runs in the first. Indians 8, Mariners 3 CLEVELAND Sandy Alomar hit his first career grand slam to highlight a seven-run fourth inning that powered surging Cleveland past Seattle.

The Indians have won three games in a row and seven of their last eight. Scott Scudder (4-5) got the victory. Brook Jacoby had his second home run of the season in the eighth.
